From a new project (BIAB-2012) I create a few chords, no lead in or anything. Sometimes when I playback I see the piano keys flashing and the cursor moving for two full measures before the sound starts at measure one. Display is ahead of the sound by 2 bars. Sometimes it plays back normal. Regardless if I double click bar 1, space bar, or F4.
Any guesses?

This also happened with my old BIAB-2007 that I just reinstalled after several years. I thought it was a WIN7 conflict with old software which is why I upgraded to 2012 yesterday. Same thing which is about 40% of the time.

I use an external A/D converter for my sound card (Focusrite Saffire Pro40) if that matters (ASIO).

Try Opt., Return to Factory Settings and report back. In version 2012 it will first prompt you to save your settings.

I've have also had that happen on a few gigs . . . what I did was just close and re-open the program/BIAB (after the tune was over of course ) and all was well.

Not being close to understanding everything there is to understand with a computer, but I think it may be a memory issue/glitch that just needs reseting, especially as it is loading and playing realtracks in realtime.

Not sure what happened....
I change the audio driver from my external ASIO to my internal MME and that worked fine. I later put it back to ASIO to try different setting and it has worked ever since.
Just keep my finger crossed I guess. Thanks for your input. I'll keep those in mind if it happens again.

By the way, welcome to the forum.

That's odd that dropping and restoring ASIO made it work. When you first reported a delay of 2 measures, I discounted the possibility of a latency adjustment because that's just too large. However, on the ASIO and MME (really WDM) dialogs, there are some timing adjustments you can play with, if as you say it happens again.

I found the latency adjustment (matching the MIDI and audio timing). I changed the latency from 0 to 20 to 500, etc. and it didn't change and always seemed pretty good.

Matt, Do I understand that "Brazillan Wish" is you on trumpet and BIAB on everything else?
As a tpt player myself, I'm impressed. Is that a Pic in your avatar?

Hi Steve. Yes, that's my Schilke piccolo P5-4. I occasionally play as a guest artist in church where I use the piccolo and C trumpets (and flute).

"Brazilian Wish" is me on flugelhorn and a little Bb trumpet, along with top studio musicians I know from the Hudson Valley of New York and New York City. It was recorded in 2005, long before RealTracks. Peter Gannon gave me permission to mention the CD here because I wrote all nine compositions using BIAB. However, I try with my signature not to mislead anyone into thinking it was recorded with BIAB, by saying "studio live CD".

If you are interested, I did record another CD of mostly BIAB compositions. It's under the name of Tomas Martin Lopez. I wrote eight of the twelve songs on the CD using BIAB of course. Latin jazz great, pianist Bill O'Connell wrote two others.

I am very proud to tell people how BIAB plays a major role in my work.

Very likely that the sound device drivers somehow got lightly corrupted. This can happen when a program like BIAB freezes, or otherwise does not exit in proper fashion, leaving a bit or byte out of place, etc. I have seen this before.

Sometimes switching drivers like that can cause the program to readdress the soundcard driver properly, as has happened here.

Other times, it may be necessary to re-install the sound driver software.

There is a command inside BIAB that may also do the trick when things like this happen. Under the OPTIONS menu, select "Return to Factory Settings" and select button number 2, which not only resets all the user settings in BIAB, but also reinvokes the Sound and MIDI setup wizard as if you were just installing the program.

Something to keep in mind for the future,

Thanks Mac,
I have my BB on a laptop for gigs. I found that completely shutting down the laptop (instead of just closing the lid) and then re-starting did the trick.
The highlighted notes are now back in sync.
ieh.

I'm finding that if I record an audio take, keep it to hear it back then record another audio take, that take will start playback anything up to two bars late. Very frustrating. I'm using ASIO. Shutting down computer and restarting makes no difference.

Try experimenting with the "ASIO Always On" checkbox. If it is already checked, try unchecking it, if it is not checked, try doing so.
