Found out on another forum late yesterday.
It has some very nice features.
Ability to use VST plugins, on startup it does auto search for them. Never knew I had so many, think there are VST's that they add.
Another nice feature, which surprised me after some amount of turmoil recently Meta data input for exported wav file.
It asks you the Title and other meta information during the save process.
Thought this may be of interest to some of you.
Have fun!

My favourite audio tool, next to Ardour - http://www.ardour.org/ - Works in Linux. Open source, so it's constantly being refined by users. I send them some cash periodically to help with the cost of development.

Funny, I was looking at Audacity's home site only last week and it was still in beta at that point. Thanks for the heads up

How about latency compensation? I couldn't do multi-tracking with Audacity because of the lack of latency compensation.

I was able to do so once they allowed use of ASIO drivers, because you can set the latency in the ASIO driver control panel.
Still, I prefer to thik of Audacity as my Audio Editor more than my fav multitracking program.

Took it for a road test, way kewl, eh. Very minor changes to the GUI.
A handy new feature is; you need not load a file in. It allows editing in place but they warn that that will overwrite your original file. Not sure of it's practicality in saving a few seconds loading time, however.

Hey Don, you're still sporting that old logo of yours but I have noticed lately that you don't seem to have any problem with mixed case writing anymore

It calls for special effort, Sam. Certain keyboarding is especially challenging but I'm trying really hard not to lose my waning dexterity. It's true in my case - "Use it, or lose it!" Being somewhat of a perfectionist, you can't imagine how many typos I make because I won't let you see them, nor how long this reply took me. My onscreen keyboard does spell-checking on-the-fly so that helps immensely. (I just misspelled immensely and it yelled out, publicly "You bloomin' idiot, let me spell that fer y'all!" (Dad-blamed Okie keyboard). It also learns my commonly-used esoteric jargon.

Mac,
I have been treating Audacity as an Icing on the cake tool.
RB is my DAW of choice. Have Cubase 5 LE, worked a bit with it and am sure it is a fine DAW, but RB fits into PG's scheme so nicely and at my current mix level is a fine tool. The many internal and also VST's available make it exceptional. I love the BIAB rendering then drag/drop of the wav file tracks into RB.
Oren, agree with you a few bucks donated to their efforts helps us all.

Well you're definitely getting better if you can spot your typos before your she-***** spell-checker starts screaming at you! Mind you, the forum won't let me type that 5 letter word which really is immensely interesting, don't you think? Eh? Know what I mean? Keep at it Don

I'm really curious, what can you do in Audacity that is better/easier/faster than in RB or Cubase? I find it an incredibly frustrating program to use, even though it's free. Cubase has a plenty fine audio editor. RB, not so much. I just would like to know.
The only reason I tried using it as a multi-track tool is that you can run it from a jump drive; so you can truly take projects just about anywhere. However, Reaper does it with much more ease and flair - and even though I don't like some of the product naming choices of the Reaper developer, if I had to use it in a pinch, I would choose it over Audacity in a heartbeat.
I find using Audacity almost as hard to get my mind wrapped around as switching from an algebraic calculator to RPN - for the nerd analogy of the day.
