Hi
one more of the strange things that can happern,i have lost all of a suddern most of my melodies,i can`t even begin to know how this has happerned,since the last up date,i don`t expect anybody to begin to know whats happerned but if anybodys got any idea i would be amazed although i know how many knowledgeable
band in a boxers there are amoungst us i am hopeful thanks for any miracals that may be found

make sure you are opening the .MGU files and not the .SGU files because the .SGU files do not contain melodies only the .MGU ones do this is a common mistake when people first wonder about the extensions used by BIAB another possibility is that your melodies play through a MIDI channel like a soft synth or hardware synth whereas your other tracks could be RealTracks we need more information to help do you see the piano keys moving when the song plays if so then maybe something is muted in the mixer or in the Melody / Soloist tracks of BIAB

Not sure what you mean by "lost your melodies". Can you not find your .MGU files? Unless you explicitly deleted them, they should be on your hard disk(s) somewhere Sometimes, a mouse slip can cause a folder to move under another folder.
I would just do a windows explorer search for "*.mgu" or "*.?g?" (the latter will pick up .mgu, .sgu, and .sg1 through .sg9 files).

i don`t seem to have the ability to put down on paper what i mean to say i have used BIAB since it first came out and know how to do most things,i have a file of 500+ New Oleans jazz tunes all with trumpet,trombone and clarinet parts and all of a suddern the melodies ie the trumpet part have vanished and the only thing i wonder if i have been got at from within so many strange thins have happern over the last few years which makes me wonder if i have been got at as i don`t have any anwsers other then that so many stupid things that m ake me look a total Numpty anyway thank you for your intrest and advise but i do know how to do the simple things in BIAB but somthing like this i don`t begin to understand

In all these years, more than ten, I have always installed new versions of BB overtop of older versions -- and have NEVER lost a single song or bit of data that was saved previously.
When you say the Melodies are "gone" -- please clarify -- do you mean that you cannot even see the notes on the track anymore (doubtful) or that you simply cannot hear them play now (probable)?
If the latter is the case, look for settings that can keep you from hearing a part, such as MUTE going on for that track, etc.
Another thing that can cause one not to hear the Melodies is if the Melody parts are using the MIDI soloists and your BB has somehow lost focus on your chosen MIDI output device. An easy way to get around all of this without a lot of digging is to try the Return to Factory Settings under the Options menu and hit the Second Button, which not only resets BiaB, but invokes the MIDI and Audio selection wizard process.

Hi Mac
when i load a file there is no yellow colour to melody just stays white which means there is no melody of any sorts in the file i have loaded,i know that in the past most events i have said are wrong have been very simple things easy to put right this looks different crazy even and i have tried a factory reset with out success thanks for your time and your intrest

But when you hit play, does the melody play (and the part turn yellow then), or does it stay white with no melody playing?

Perhaps you could post one or two of the songs you are having problems with and we could check it on our own systems to see if it's the file or something else on your computer.

Click on the melody button. Next click on Leadsheet. Do you see any notation on the leadsheet?

Hi
the only thing i can find that is equal on all the tunes with missing melodies is that the sty is zzjazz sty and this is a sty that i never use i normaly use some styles that i made my self which were new orleans styles
so this is why it seems such a crazy thing maybe when you get a few hundred things line up this fault happerns i bet you will not find anybody else where a certain style has loaded into tunes in your BIAB files all by them selves yet this is what happerned

zzjazz is always the default style when no other file has been selected or loaded with a song. Even though a song may have a style if it is not one of the PG Music styles, it may not load with the song if it's not in the stylepicker. I have some non-biab styles but they have always been there after each upgrade.
As to the melodies, I have no explanation without knowing if they show up in the notation window and events list. You might as well contact pg music support. I think they have live chat, but I've never used it. Good luck in your quest.

they don`t show up any where neither the notation window or the event list and as i said the only constant thing is the zzjazz sty shows up in the style box where i once had my own atyles and this all happerned after the last up date and because i am very short of memory i did not save before i loaded in the new update but i had saveed the list of tunes earlier thanks for your intrest could be a little bermuda triangle

Dave My friend, Have you tried.....click START...SEARCH...ALL FILES.....then type in "*.mgu"....(without the inverted commas"? That brings up a list of all your songs with a melody. Hopefully that will tell you where they are hiding!  Hope your health is improving? Regards, Joe G.

This would be a very good thing to do.
If you do find .mgu files and they are still in the right folders, don't overlook that RETURN TO FACTORY SETTINGS I told you about earlier.

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums.
