I haven't asked for help for a while, but this has me stumped.
I want to make a short mix of "Consider yourself at home" from Oliver.
I have the sheet music which shows the rhythm at 6/8 with a notation which says "play as a lively march".
When I listen to the track on a CD I can certainly identify it as a lively march, buy I can only pick up a 4/4 rhythm.
How would you enter the chords and then the notes for such a song?

Hi Tony.
When you look at the sheet music you can see what he had in mind, but like you, I've never heard it performed that way. Personally, I'd take the chords from the sheet music, but adapt it for 4/4 time as everyone else seems to have done.

A 6/8 march pulses as 2 in a bar with each beat being 3 quavers (eights) long. Normally you could approximate it as 2/4 using quaver triplets. Try transcribing it as 4/4 triplets maybe?

Tony, I definitely hear "Consider Yourself" as a 6/8 march. It's as Lawrie says. When in a march format, it's the strong beats one hears (hence the 4/4 feel). Consider Yourself (Jack Wild singing) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNapDkz1urcFor comparison, below is link to a 6/8 march that's pretty much the same tempo as "Consider Yourself". Washington Post March https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzIH7vytjEEYou will probably have more luck with a swing backing than a straight 4/4 backing. Regards, Noel

Tony:
If you're just looking for a MIDI style and not RealTracks, you can use "MARCH_12.STY March 12/8 Style". It should be okay for a start although it's a bit "busy".
Good luck! LLOYD S
