Dear All,

I've just installed BIAB 2102/v.350 to a new machine (a fast Dell laptop running Windows 7).

All's fine, except this silly thing: The very first drum-stick hit in the 2-bar count-in (1-3- 1234) is muffled or near-inaudible in every number I've tested. (My numbers are Jazz RT & RD-only.)

The rest of the count-in, after the first stick hit, is fine.

I've messed around with everything I can think of to fix it - midi-driver settings especially - but I just can't sort it.

I'd be very grateful for any ideas....

Many Thanks - Best - Andy

It could be an audio driver issue. If you're using ASIO, try switching to MME. And vice versa. I've seen this when using an external synth and ASIO. There is a checkbox in the Audio settings to fix a RealDrum problem when using this combination. This may fix it if that is your setup.

If you can't resolve the issue, provide us with more info such as synth, audio driver, etc.

Hi Rachael - Many Thanks for that.

I'm now beginning to think it's nothing to do with the midi set-up.

For my all-RT/RD set-up, I'm pretty sure the count-in sound comes from the RDs not from midi.

2 bits of evidence for that: a) with no RD loaded, the count in clearly sounds Midi, not Real; and b) Although all the RD's I use have a 'stick' count-in, one doesn't: Craig Scott's JazzBrushesWaltz plays the count-in with brushes not sticks !

So that suggests to me that the issue may be something to do with the speed of loading RD's ?

And that's odd, because my new machine is pretty quick (Dell i7 2.2GB, fast HDD etc) - much faster than my previous Dell Latitude....

Have you found the same problem... ?

Thanks again Rachael - Best - Andy

Hi Andy,

That's interesting. I just went into opt/preferences/count-in and tried changing the count-in instrument (with realdrums loaded) and the change didn't come through. This tends to suggest to me, too, that the count-ins are realdrums and not midi. I have version 2012.

Regards,
Noel

If a RD set is used, the count-in is obtained from the RD. You can verify this by playing one of the RD .wma (or .wav) files in the RealDrums folder. The count-in instrument found in the Opt menu Noel discussed is for Midi count-in.

As to Andy's original problem, RealDrums are audio and not Midi. If you are using a RD set (the Drums part is green), the problem is somewhere in the audio chain. Try unchecking 'Speed-up generation of RealTracks...' found in the RealTrack settings. And check on that Audio driver issue I mentioned found in the Opt|Midi audio driver setup.

I still need to know what your setup is? Synth, audio driver, etc.

...and don't forget the old standby Factory Reset

Yes, please try doing a "Return to Factory Settings" under the Options menu inside BB.

Pick the SECOND choice there, which also resets sound and MIDI.

This is not a RealDrums loading problem, but I'm thinking it may be a soundcard Muting problem in timing of such.

It could be the timing synchronizing the audio and MIDI, but, as requested, we need more info about your system.

Dear All,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I've discovered the following - which seems rather significant:

- When I start BIAB and load a song, the first stick-hit in the count-in is perfectly clear.

- However if I stop the song, and re-play/re-generate it - or if I load a different song - the first stick-hit is muffled and very quiet.

In other words: the only time the first stick-hit of the count-in plays clearly is the very first time Play is pressed in newly-opened-BIAB.

That seems to be a very consistent pattern, irrespective of the song being loaded.

I did the return-to-factory-settings Mac, but that seems to make no difference.

Grateful for any suggestions about why the Count-In starts so oddly from the second time Play is pressed, and thereafter.

(The Midi/Audio Drivers Setup, after the factory-reset is:
- Midi Output Driver: MS GS Wavetable Synth
- Synthesiser/Sound Card: General Midi Instrument
- Driver Latency: 104ms
- Timer resolution: 1ms
- Use VST/DXi Synth Box: Checked
- Audio Settings: MME

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium on a new Dell XPS laptop, with i7/2.4GB chip & 6MB RAM.)

Thanks again to All - Best - Andy

Hello again, Andy123--

You will likely save a lot of time by taking this problem directly to PGMusic Support, via the tollfree telephone hotline if at all possible. They have a great record of walking folks thru these kind of things.
