I thought I had already posted this but don't see it in the posts now...hmmm, maybe old age. I am looking for a Clapton-esque style or a least a drum style that is suited for doing a cover of "Wonderful Tonight". The tune has a distinct 4/4 signature that sound more like a 2/4 because of the drum beat. High hat plays on 8ths with a random 16th thrown in. The snare plays on the 3 beat of the measure. In my unique drumming vernacular (I am not a drummer) that would sound like ch/ch/ch/ch/pop/ch/ch/ch. 1 2 3 4 I can find a drum style that seems to match. Any ideas or ways to create this? Can I "tweak" a drum style to accomplish this. I can think of other tunes in which the drum beat characterizes the overall feel of the song.

Right, would like to know how to do that myself. Can you provide any insight or how-to's?

Creating your own style using the Wizard is not too difficult, as long as you have a good MIDI file to start with.
Just click on Styles, Style-Wizard. Once the new window opens up, click on OPEN to open your MIDI file. Once it is open, you can specify your A sub-parts (by typing in bar ranges separated with commas) and B sub-parts. You can also specify the "fill" bars for both A and B, as well. Once you have specified everything, click on the Create New Style button and give it a name (in 8.3 format).
I recommend listening closely to the MIDI in BIAB before starting and making notes of which bars would make up the A part, B part, and fill bars. That way, you can just type that information in once you have the wizard open.
Hope this helps. Just read the screen, and if necessary click the Help button if you run into problems. Once you are done, you will have a style that can be used for any song that has the same feel.

one more question John,
when you say "start with a good MIDI", what are you referring to? The song I have create? A MIDI drum track that I have selected as a starting point?

Thanks Richard,
I was hoping someone had already conquered this great song in BIAB. I am kind of a perfectionist when it comes to recreating a backing for the great songs out there. Some many of the great ones (Pink Floyd, Clapton, SRV, ect.) have signature sounds that define the song and the artist. For me, the song would not be the same with just "getting close".

To create a style based on a familiar song, you need to find a MIDI version of it (that includes all the important parts and riffs). This only works for MIDI styles. For RealTracks, you just have to find individual instruments that sound good together and lots of luck getting the right riffs.
With a good MIDI, you can have the style wizard analyze what is being played on each track and create a style based on that MIDI file. So, let's say you want to use alternate chords for the song or put fills in different places, etc, then only a style will let you do that, since the original MIDI file is going to be based on the chords used by the creator. That's the beauty of building your own style.

Given all the variables used within covering certain songs and capturing as many nuances as possible or practical, you would have to (my opinion) either (a) play the parts yourself and capture the audio or midi (midi-synth guitar, keyboard, etc.) to get an approximation of the riffs, etc., then use a fairly substantial notation program (e.g., Finale, Sibelius at the high end, or Notion 3 or Guitar Pro 6 at the less expensive end) to refine notes, phrasing, rhythm, etc., or (b) play the parts yourself on each particular instrument and capture the audio. But then in the case of (b), you would have to move to Real Band, since you would run out of audio tracks in BBW.
Lastly, as I'm sure you're aware, you would also have to simulate the instruments, amps, cabinets, etc. (my opinion, amplitude and the like do fairly well, but don't come close to my guitars, Fender Twins or Princeton). And so on.
Probably why I'm content to capture the essence of a song, but still make it mine.

You can make hybrid styles in BIAB, so you may want to listen to a few styles to find one that has the drum feel you want and then incorporate that drum style into your own style. You can pick the style for every instrument in a hybrid style.
It sounds like you may want to listen to some Country or simple Blues styles for the drum part you're looking for.
'Hope this helps.
