I am trying to use BIAB 2009 for Windows (with updates)under Windows 7 in Parallels 7 on a 10.68 Macbook Pro. It does work - but is pretty glitchy. It often freezes - for example when I was changing fonts in the display option. It doesn't seem to remember the song and style lists, and has to recreate them each time I open the programme. The melody has on occasion skipped 8 bars and gone out of sync on 2nd or 3rd chorus. I am unable to download Real tracks 23-24, and although I did manage to download Real Tracks 20-22 Band in a Box says they can't be found. Real Drum Tracks have installed successfully however
I would be interested to know if there is a known problem here - and for example if I upgraded to 2012 (which I don't really need) would this sort itself out.
Alternatively do people have a better experience using Bootcamp?
(I am using BIAB Windows rather than the Mac version because the principal tool I use is Audio Record - the alternative of creating WAV files and transferring them to Garage Band every time I try out a different key or style is far too fiddly!)
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi hedystafford, Welcome to the forums. I've read a couple of other posts where people have said that Parallels is sometimes glitchy. You asked ... Quote:

Peter Gannon (the PG in PG Music) runs BIAB under Boot Camp and, as far as I'm aware, it's fine.
Regards, Noel

One other thing -- Make sure that you have downloaded and installed the latest PATCH UPDATE for that version, from the PGMusic Support pages. That often fixes problems like this one.
The latest Patch Update release contains ALL the previous updates as well, so you only need download and install the one file.

Thank you so much for the quick response. I have already applied updates 287 and 288 - I understood that the "Band-in-a-Box 2009 and 2009.5 USB hard drive patch for Windows Vista and Windows 7" was only if running BIAB from an external drive, which I'm not - is that right?

I believe that is correct information, although I don't think that choosing to install that update when not using the USB drive would hurt anything.
Whenever BiaB stops doing something that it is supposed to do, find the file, "intrface.bbw" in your bb folder and delete it (with BiaB closed down completely).
Then start up Band in a Box, it will create a new file of the same name, uncorrupted.
Crashes, freezes, a few other things can cause that file to become corrupted and can often create problems. The file must be written to when bb closes down and if that is ever missed, the file can indeed beconme corrupted. This deletion fixes a host of cumulative problems such as you describe.

Hi hedystafford,
I have used Parallels for many years with Windows XP and Biab 2008 - 2012. Never had any real issues (besides the infrequent crashes that seems to happen every now and then with Biab, regardless of environment).
I have also tried every recent version of Biab for Mac, but have been disappointed so far. Biab for Windows running in Parallels or VMWare is a much better option, IMHO.
I hope you can sort your problems out, and get a stable installation. Good luck!
Regards
/Bjorn

Thanks for replies. After a month of everything working absolutely fine, I loaded up a few days ago to find that BIAB chords were blacked out. Have tried the fix suggested by Mac, to no avail. Could this be something completely unassociated with Parallels that I have inadvertently caused to happen....?

Hedystafford, Under the "Opt | Preferences | Colors" there's a number of settings that might work. Try setting it up like the image below. Hope this helps, Noel

OK - having tried removing intrface.bbw I then also returned to factory settings and when I re-opened the black had finally gone. Fingers crossed.

How much memory did you give Windows 7 to work in? That can cause glitchiness if not enough is allocated. Another option is to try VMWare Fusion.
