I have BIAB 2007. Using "Style Maker", I have edited the individual instrument volumes. Using "bar settings" ,when doing a style change within a song, the edited volumes of the instruments change back to the default settings when the style changes. I am using an external keyboard (Roland U20) for the midi instruments and have edited the volumes of each instrument in "Style Maker" and saved them to whatever style I'm using per song. The edited volumes work fine until I do a style change somewhere within the song. The volumes revert back to the default settings ( default settings for all volumes set at 90) for the new style. I have edited and saved the volumes for the new style that I am changing to, but it still reverts to the default setting.

I've run out of ideas on keeping the volumes consistent when changing styles. Any ideas you can share would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Jim

Hi Jim,

Since you are asking about change of Style midstream, you must be talking about MIDI based Styles and not Realtracks Styles, which cannot do that as of yet.

BiaB has a neat feature that covers the different volumes of different MIDI styles very well.

Hit "Prefs" then locate the "Arrange" button, hit it.

At top Right of the Arrange Wiondow, find "Normalize MIDI Volumes to..."

Invoke that by checking it, then try different numbers in the slot to suit, I recommend starting out with that number set to about 90.

This uses MIDI velocities in a way that acts like an Audio Compressor, ironing out the volume differences from style to style.

Thanks Mac. What you suggested is the last thing I tried, but no luck. I thought I struck gold when I first saw that "normalize midi volumes" under "Arrange". I was confident that would work, but when edited, saved, opened and replayed the song, starting at all instruments on 90, it would revert right back to the default volumes beginning at the bar where I did the style change. I tried several different volume levels with no success.

Again, my BIAB is the 2007 version, so I guess all my styles are midi based. I'm not familiar with Realtracks...at least I don't think I am... With my Roland keyboard doing the midi voices, the styles sound great. Many songs I use the Real Drums, if they have the right groove. I've got the midi channels set so that for some songs, the instrument voices come from the Roland and the Real Drums comes from BIAB off the computer. I wish I had more Real Drum files. It's an excellent blend.

The drums and percussion on my Roland are almost as convincing but I love the Real Drums. The acoustic piano on the Roland is one of the best I've heard from any synth, so the acoustic piano sounds amazing with BIAB.

Thanks again Mac.

Try A "Return to Factory Settings" undder the Options menu, a critical file may be corrupted and causing that.

Also, visit the PGMusic Updates page and make sure that you have downloaded and installed the last Update release for your version of BB. (Help-> About will report which version you are currently running.)

Did you edit all of the styles you are using in the song to adjust the volumes?

Are the Tracknames in the song in question colored Yellow?

This may or may not be the problem, but I would also look at the Style Volume settings, found in two places. It's kind of counter-intuitive. If you check the box, it means that the volume in the style over-rides any volume you set in a song. Most people turn it off, but it sounds to me like you might need it turned on.

1) From the main menu, check out "Opt, Preferences". Click on the "Channels" tab and then the "Options" button. You'll see a checkbox labeled "Style Volume Changes". See if it is checked or not. If not, check it and see if your styles work for you.

2) Within Style Editor is a similar checkbox. Open the style in stylemaker you are setting specific volumes for and click on the "Misc" tab and check the button "Allow Volume Changes with Style" and make the appropriate changes below the checkbox.

Don't know if this helps, or maybe you already know this, but I hadn't seen any reference to this yet.
