I am trying to make a patch change at a specific bar on the soloist track. The MIDI synth I am using is the Roland VCS DXi (GM2)softsynth. Since I want the song to start the soloist track with the Jazz Electric Guitar patch, I have that set up using the drop-down for the soloist track on the main BiaB screen. Then, at bar 9 of the song, using the "bar settings" dialog, I selected the "54/1 Humming" patch from the "Patch Changes at This Bar" drop-down for the soloist track. However, when played, the song changes to what sounds like the "54 Voice Oohs" patch at bar 9. I believe the issue relates to the fact that patch 54/1 is a GM2 patch and I need to do something else on the "bar settings" dialog to get it to change to a GM2 patch. Can someone tell me specifically what I need to key in on the "bar settings" dialog to change the soloist track to the "54/1 Humming" patch when using the Roland VSC DXi (GM2) MIDI softsynth?

"54/1" -- the "1" defines a "Higher Bank" setting than the common GM patch set.

In this case, Patch 54, BUT in Bank 1.

In the Bar Settings Window, have you checked "Show Higher Bank Settings" to True and then used the + bos to invoke the desired Patch?

Yes, I have the "Show Higher Bank Settings" box checked (set to "true"). There are 2 "+" boxes (buttons). The one immediately to the right of the patch dropdown simply shows me that I have patch 54/1 chosen ("ensemble" and "54/1 Humming" are both checked on the lists displayed by this "+" button). If I click on the second "+" button (further to the right), I get a dialog that says "This will display lists of higher bank patches as found in *.PAT text files. Please choose a .PAT file". Then, when I click "OK" on this dialog, I get a "BB File Open" dialog, that is allowing me to find and open a .PAT file. If, on the File Open dialog I navigate to the "bb" directory, I see lots of .PAT files, but I have no idea which one to choose.

Find "Roland VSC.pat" in your bb folder and select that one.

Ok. I've chosen "Roland VSC.pat". This pops up a new "Patches on Higher Banks" dialog. The list of patches that is displayed is very confusing and looks nothing like the list of patches that is presented in the patch dropdown list on the main BiaB screen. When I scroll thru the list of patches, there is no voice called "Humming". I'm totally confused as to why this list is totaly diferent than the list of voices presented to me in the patch dropdown list on the main BiaB screen! The patch I want at bar 9 is "54/1 Humming". How do I get that?

Bumping this back to the top......

Mac, I've followed your suggestions up to the point where I have the "Patches on Higher Banks" dialog for the "Roland VSC.pat" in front of me, but I can't figure out how to get the patch for "54/1 - Humming" on that dialog.

I'm not Mac, but.... In my (latest build) setup, there is no Bank 1 patch 54 and no name "humming" in the Roland VSC.pat file. I suspect that's because that map is for the old (pre-VSTi) sound set.

I'm not familiar with the VSC series, but if you're sure the VSTi is GM2 compliant, then try this:

DISable the "show higher bank patches" switch in that F5 dialog, and just use the remaining "+" button. (This is equivalent to using the "GM2" button in the main interface.) Patch 54/1 will be under the "Ensemble" group.

If this works, you may want to revert to the default GM pat file so as to avoid confusion in the future.

If it doesn't work, you may want to go to the VSTi interface itself and manually check that the desired patch is there. Assuming it is, close the VSTi window, open the midi monitor, try again as above to choose the desired patch. The info in the midi monitor for the target channel will (one hopes) point to the problem. Post back if no joy.

HTH, -Ron

EDIT - Ok, I followed my own advice with the Midi monitor, and it appears there's a bug! Using the F5 window to set a GM2 patch change doesn't work properly, because an MSB (CC 0) value of 0 - instead of the required 121 - is sent!

So I think the OP was following the proper procedure. A bug gets in the way Hope PG guys see this.

You might be able to do what you want via the higher bank route, but you might have to build the necessary .pat file yourself.

EDIT 2 - PG: The bug appears to be only in the melody and soloist parts, not the auto-generated ones.
