Can anyone help me to get regular chord printout in Nashville leadsheet instead of shunk-upper-right subfont?
Thanks!

Hi seeph,

Welcome to the forums.

I'm not fully understanding what you mean by "shrunk-upper-right subfont"?

Are you meaning that when BIAB writes chords with extensions in Nashville notation, it adds those extensions as shown in the picture below?

If so, then I know no way of overcoming this.

Best regards,
Noel

I’m a little confused with your question. Nashville chords are what Noel has shown. If you want regular chords like Dm7 or G9th then click on Options/Preferences/display then look for chord display. In the drop down box to the right of chord display choose normal. That will get you back to the normal chord display, i.e. Dm7 etc.

She got 8 out of 10.
The other 2 jumped out of the way!

If Seeph means he's bugged by the superscript ("shrunk upper right") lettering, that way of showing the extensions is built into the chord font. The default PG font is one that does it.

When that's bothersome, change fonts until you find something you can stand. The "Opus Plain Chords Custom" font I use does not use any superscripts, for example.

If you are going to substitute, using another specialized chord font is your best bet, although even that doesn't guarantee 100% compatibility with every BiaB practice.

Allis,

How do I get hold of the "Opus Plain Chords" font? I'd like to try that one out

Regards,
Noel

After mentioning it I couldn't remember how I got Opus! I now believe it is installed with the well-known "Scorch" music viewer used by online sheet music sellers. Download Scorch at no cost. It's small. Opus is a conservative, neutral typeface, both Roman and sans-serif, with nice flat and sharp symbols. Suitable for a jazz leadsheet or concert-hall piece too. Moderately formal -- NOT the hand-lettered look.

Finale Notepad (once again distributed free) will install a good commercial font called Maestro. I am almost certain shareware programs and commercial demos have left other fonts on my outfit as well. I don't know where else the buggers might come from.

Hi av84fun,

Am doing something wrong? I can't seem to find the Opus Plain Chords font at the link you give above.

Regards,
Noel

No, fellows, that's a strange rubbish page that yields nothing. I wasted time on it earlier myself.

Go here to download Sibelius Scorch (11 Megs) and install it:

http://www.sibelius.com/products/scorch/index.html

I double-checked, and that definitely fetches the complete Opus music font along with the program. Once in Windows, the font is available to BiaB and other programs. "Scorch" is an official Sibelius browser plugin that lets you open, read, and print their notation files without buying Sibelius.

After you double-click the setup program, open your browser; a quick install process will start. You can possibly uninstall the plug-in without losing its font.

Thanks! That was my problem. Because it is printed out, the superscripts are hard to see. I am going to install that software right now! It has bothered me for a very long time. Because it was not like that before. Thanks!

Sorry, but the fonts don't work. They are still showing the superscripts in Nashville printout. I want to see 2m7 the way just like Dm7's extension.......

I am afraid you're right. Nashville notation seems to use superscripts no matter WHAT you do. Normal notation changes in that respect from font to font, but not Nashville.

You're (presumably, although you don't say it directly) having trouble because the superscripts are printing too small to be read. I suppose you've tried increasing the size of your chord font by quite a bit, to make things more visible? Many fonts also have "bold" variations that thicken the lines.

If there's really no way to make it visible on the printed page, Nashville notation would be pretty useless. There must be something people do.
