My BB 2012.5 audiophile is finally installed. One might think that running from an external hard drive is an easy install but I really could not live with the soundcard on my new Toshiba laptop and I decided to add a USB Sound Blaster Digital Music Premium HD. It took ages to get it working with BB as I just could not find the right combination of settings. Now it is working, more by good luck than really understanding what I was doing, but I am missing just one thing.... How do you get the note to sound as you are entering a Note Lyric? That is how it used to work but now it is silent.  I have worked through the preferences several times but I just do not seem to be able to find anything about it. Can some kind soul please tell me where to find the correct box to tick? BTW, the playback is beeeeaaaauuuutiful!

Options->MIDI/Audio...
And check, "Route MIDI Thru to.."
**When using a USB sound device, it is imperative that the device be hooked up to USB port and recognized by the System *before* starting Band in a Box program. If you forget to do that, BiaB will not find the device because it is not there.**

Thanks Mac! Now, if you had told me that bit about recognition two days ago, I might have got it working earlier.  To tell the truth, I am beginning to regret the change from a desktop to a laptop. It just does not have sufficient USB 2.0 ports. Use of USB 2.0 port hubs does not seem to generate sufficient power either.

Graham, try a powered USB port. A company by the name of Plugable makes some good ones that have plenty of power. See the following info at: http://plugable.com/products/ These are reliable and readily available at Amazon.com.

Not to hijack the thread but I am planning on replacing a several year old desktop with a pretty high end laptop when Win 8 is introduced.
I have a fairly good HP laptop running Win 7/64 with Intel Core i5 at 2.53 and 6 gigs of ram...but with a "stock" sound card that I'm not too thrilled with.
So, when I buy the new puter...should I go with the Soundblaster USB device the poster is using...and likes? Not too expensive at around $150.00.
Anyone else have experience with that box?

Win 8 is IMHO tweaked for touchscreen. The finger typists from blackberry influence. New systems slimmer than the iMac are coming. I ran win 8 on my laptop ok though.
I have 3 laptops and hate them with a passion now.
Beats me. What we need is a simple way to stream music and data to control lights, vocal boxes, projectors, and other peripherals such as stomp boxes. Heck, why are we stomping on buttons at 2'30" when we could control that? Seems dumb. It should go to a net protocol, then to a wireless version. Then, nirvana.

I just read in the new Guitar Player that Mackie and a BUNCH of other mixer makers are introducing "docking stations" for the iPad. The docking station as all the in/out jacks but the iPad replaces all physical sliders etc.
And you can walk around the venue with the iPad...undocked...and since it communicates wirelessly with the docking station, you can push the faders all you want to mix the sound while standing out in the room listening to what you are doing!!!
So, we may be a LOT closer to controlling lights, stomps, projectors etc. remotely from an iPad than you might think. (Of course, "virtual" stomp boxes already exist)
