I’m not sure if this is peculiar to my setup, or a general thing, so I’ll throw it out there. Every time I get a new version of BIAB, I start a new songfile and name it BIAB2012 or BIAB2012.5 etc. I then bulk transfer my songs from the current folder to the new one,and then go through and update them with the new BIAB version features.
However, I’ve noticed that any Realtracks that are frozen will not play in the new folder, however it doesn’t affect MIDI tracks. Once unfrozen they are fine.
Perhaps someone could try this, and if it’s the case I can either let PG Support know, or post it on the Tips & Tricks page.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers, Keith

Keith,
I don't think I'm understanding your post properly. Why do you "update" older song files when you upgrade BIAB? BIAB files are compatible from version to version. I regularly open files from years ago and have done so in every different version I've had (I upgrade twice yearly). There's never been a problem.
Regards, Noel

As Noel says, you can always load older songs into newer versions of BIAB. Going the other way can sometimes mean you will lose features, but even then the basic song still loads.
Is your question about file management techniques, rather than BIAB?

Hi Noel & Mat, I'm sorry, I may not have explained myself correctly. Whenever a new version of BIAB comes out, I like to update my old songs utilising the new BIAB features. For example, I might find a better style for my old songs, or I may wish to replace a MIDI piano with a Super MIDI or a with a new Realtrack. So the songs that I may have done 10 years ago that were all MIDI are improved by the addition of Realtracks, new styles,or Super MIDI. I still keep the öld versions in a separate folder "just in case."
My question was more about the fact that frozen tracks, once bulk copied to a new folder, will nor play unless they are first unfrozen. Thanks for your responses.
Cheers, Keith

Hi Keith,
This is strange behaviour. What version of BIAB were the files in question created in and what version are you now opening them in? (Am I correct in assuming that if the file is not copied to a new folder then it opens and plays ok with frozen tracks?)
Regards, Noel

Hi Noel, I'm using 2012.5, but the song files are from 2011. If I open songs directly from the 2011 folder that have frozen Realtracks, they play without a problem. However if I open the same song from my 2012 folder (which was bulk copied) the frozen Realtracks will not play. It's no big deal, but if it's a bug I'd like to let support know. Thanks for your interest.
Cheers, Keith

Hi Keith,
From what you describe, this sounds like one for Support.
All the best, Noel

Check the Properties -> Attributes of the copied files to see if they are listed as "Read Only" after the Copy took place.
If so, change that to "Archive" and then see if the files will now play in the new version.

I've had similar problems in sharing files with other BIAB users through Dropbox - I wonder if this could be the source of my problem.
Thanks for the tip, Mac - I'll investigate this the next time it happens.

Hi Mac, Yes, the "Read only" box was checked, however unchecking it does not make any difference, i.e. the frozen Realtracks do not play unless I unfreeze them.
Cheers, Keith

Get support to help out.
It's included with the software, and they are good at it.
