Does anyone know if it is possible to import a Sibelius file, with a .sib extension, into BIAB?
If so, how do you do it and is it reliable?

Hi Tony,
No, it's not possible to import files directly from notation editors into BIAB. I don't know Sibelius but the only way you'd be able to import the data would be to save it as a MIDI file (if possible) and then read the MIDI into BIAB.

Sibelius does allow save or export to midi.

Thanks guys. The reason I'm asking this is because a friend of mine has Sibelius but he wants to UPGRADE to BIAB. He has lots of Sibelius files which he doesn't want to lose.

Hi Tony,
It would be wrong of your friend to think of getting BIAB as an upgrade from Sibelius. At best, it's an addition. If what he is after is to read the melody documented in Sibelius into BIAB then that is possible given that Sibelius will save MIDI files. BIAB will also interpret a chord progression from the MIDI file. The interpreted chords would have varying degrees of accuracy depending on the amount of information in the saved MIDI file.
The above being said, though, as you are aware, it really doesn't take too much time to type a chord progression into BIAB.
To my way of thinking, his best bet is to save a couple of MIDI files from Sibelius and then have you load them into BIAB so that he can see what happens.

Noel96 is correct. I used Sibelius for years. I don't blame your friend for not wanting to lose his .sib files. I've saved probably hundreds of sib files and imported them into biab with no problems--most of the time. They come in on the melody track. If I have a bunch of midi tracks, I use Real Band where each midi instrument can be on a separate track.
