I have had no luck when moving tracks from RB to Sonar. While in RB, the tracks are so hot they are almost clipping. Then I export to wav, import into Sonar, and when I hit the play button the tracks are so soft they are barely moving the level indicators. Is this just how it is or am I doing something wrong? I can't imagine what there is to screw up in the simple steps of "save all tracks to individual files" and then "import wav file". Any ideas?

This may be stating the obvious but have you looked at the track volume riders in both programmes? Particularly the Master riders? The 'Save All Tracks...' option in RB WILL indeed save all tracks but with the volumes you have them set to. In other words, if you have low track volumes but a high Master in RB (say 85-90%) then when you save those tracks and import them to another programme, they WILL be low volume. Then, if in the target programme you have the Master at the normal level (say around 70%), the imported tracks WILL be quiet.

All I can add is that I have no volume changes when drop and dragging either individual tracks or a combo from BiaB to Sonar X1d.
Sam may have the right idea.
I'm in a fitness protection program. I'm been hiding from exercise.

Sonar probably has a pan law setting which will affect the volume levels too

Eddie, I just tried to duplicate your problem and I exported all tracks in one instance, then separate tracks in the next instance. No noticeable change in volume.
I would re-check your settings in BIAB and/or try Return to Default Settings (sic) and test anew. Stating the obvious...something is amiss in your rendering to .wav settings. What happens when you try rendering to .mp3 or .wma? Same problems?

Exported tracks are at one particular level. This level is a good thing as we will be able to know for certain that there is no clipping, no gainstage problem, etc. with the track(s).
The apparent loudness of the track inside any sequencing software is a function of the settings for each track in that particular software.
When moving from one software to another like that, we have to do a REMIX using the new software's Mixer or other gain controls in order to get whatever mix we had going on in the first software.
This is just how it works. Think about the analog tape situation for a minute, if you took the 2" multitrack tape away from the studio where you did some mixing of the playback and put the tape on a new machine in a new studio, the faders on the console would not reflect the mix you had at the first studio. We used to call the "throw the faders up and see what we've got" -- and then would have to proceed with remixing the thing to get some semblence of what we need on the new setup. Same with softwares.
Each software has a "typical" mixer setting for every track imported, just a starting place. Likely a much beter default than having all tracks turned all the way down or all the way up. All the way down, people wouldn't hear anything after importing and that would be the basis for many a complaint...

When I merge to a wav it's fine. When I take that wav and make it MP3s it's fine. Only when I import into Sonar (and I do not use the RB drop - I export to wav and import tracks into Sonar - one at a time - all 19 of them in this case) the volume is half of what it was in RB. Very stange indeed. Tracks made from scratch in Sonar are fine. That's the problem. When I try to add any kind of sweetening track it is LOUD compared to the rest of the tracks.

Import the first WAV into Sonar. Select the track. Go to Process/Audio/Gain. Set gain at desired level. Rinse and repeat.

When I import WAVs into Sonar from RB, the levels are actually always too high. I have to lower them in order to mix. Another quick and easy way to raise them all at once is to group all the new tracks and raise them manually with the faders.

Others opinions will vary I'm sure but to me you only want to import or export the raw original tracks. Example, you use RB to generate an RT guitar part. If you know you're going to wind up in Sonar, then you do nothing to that track in RB except listen to it to make sure it was generated correctly. Other than that, you do no gain changes, no effects plugs, none of that because it's being moved to Sonar anyway. That's like sending some tracks to a pro mixing engineer that you've already applied effects to. What's the point of that?
If it's a generated Biab midi part, same thing. Don't apply anything to it and remember for midi if you don't have the same midi synths set up in both programs then that part will sound different.
Remember what I said Eddie in the other thread? Mac is an educated audio engineer with a ton of experience. Listen to him.

Hmmm... interesting comments that made me think another way. I have never done it with totally raw tracks. As I start the next song I am going to try that. Makes absolute sense to me that the changes I made in RB wouldn't be reflected in another DAW since mixing in the box is non destructive editing.
Mac's comment made me think about this scenario. His reference to the old days of 2" tape... taking it to a different machine....
If I recorded "This Is My New Song" in RB, sent the raw tracks, completely pristine, out to wav, brought those wav files into Sonar, Protools, Reaper, Insert Favorite Your DAW Name Here..... I wonder if that would result in several different results? Would the level be "X" in every software?
