I have a song that was using BOSANEW, and at BIAB's suggestion, I tried realstyle _BOSSAN. When I did this it started embellishing the chords, quite drastically, and I need this song to be played straight.

The embellishment you hear would have to be a function of the chosen new Stylefile.

Try recerting back to the original style file and see if those embellishments disappear.

Also could try *other* realtrack styles to see what they do to it as well.

Use of the Filter at the bottom of the Stylepicker window after loading in the style that sounds okay to you. filtering as to Feel and Tempo will place an asterisk in front of every style in the list that might work. Use of the Loop feature as the song plays back repeatedly and checking "Play on doubleclick" inside the Stylepicker window will allow you to wade through the list of possible style files, hearing what they sound like with your actual chords in the songfile. Auditioning the Styles like this may help you to find a style that suits what you want.

While BB suggests to try the _BOSSAN realtracks style, it may not be a perfect fit for what you desire to hear.

It is, after all, only BB's suggestion.

Please let us know which RealTracks you are referring to.
Also, what type of embellishment you are referring to (added chord tones, rhythmic).
Assuming that it is a jazz style.... One common embellishment that sometimes clashes with a song, is added "altered" tones, such as b9 (flat 9), b13 and #11. These will sometimes get played on a 7th chord (eg. C7). The solution is to type C9 instead of C7. That way you will get a "pure" C9 with no extra tones added. In Jazz, Adding the 9th to a C7 usually sounds fine.

Other than that, use the "simple" option as it sounds like you did, which reduces embellishements, specifically altered tensions and rhythmic variations. But not all RealTracks have this option available - you can look in the "simple" column in the RealTracks picker to see if you're one has that option available. It usually works quite well.

Also, some of the RTs have variations that can be specified. In the RT picker, check the 'Show RealTrack Variations' box. Some of the tracks will have something like (A:Simple) or ('A' only). I believe these are a bit different than picking the 'Force to Simple' option in the Song Settings or Track Settings.

Yes, those are dedicated RT's that are simple. I think we made them dedicated like that because people had requested that for those RT's. Any RT can be made simple, as long as it is listed as simple-ready in the RealTracks Picker.

We are updating more and more of them to be simple-ready, I think about 40% are now. And a lot of them don't need a simple version (such as soloists).

It was _BOSSAN, and yes it sounded like it was adding altered tones to the chords. I have to rush out right now, but I will play around with it more later. Rhythmically it sounded OK I think.

Yes, going back to the original midi style makes it play 'straight'.

I am confused here. I am talking about a RealStyle called _BOSSAN in the stylepicker, not a realtrack (It's not the same thing is it?). I see no "simple" column.

RealStyles are a collection of RealTracks. So _BOSSAN would have a few RealTracks. You can visit the RealTracks Picker (press the RealTracks button), and you can see what RealTracks are set. That window has lots of columns, and the second from the right is "Simple", that shows if a simple variation is available for that style. If it is, you can either select the checkbox called "simple" in the dialog to set it for that track, or exit the dialog and press the Song Settings button, and set the whole song to simple.,

Second from the right is the column labelled "TS" which the help says is "Tempo Swapping"? I also cannot find the checkbox for "simple". Is this because I have last years version of BIAB?
