I've been using BiaB for many years, and have purchased every version, but have gotten behind in installing them. I just installed 2012 over my 2011.5, and am going through the 2012 tutorial feature by feature. When trying out the new "Simpler RealTracks" option, I ran into some strange stuff. On some older songs I had, when I went to the "Assign RealTracks" dialog and selected a new track, e.g. bass was #711 and I changed it to #921, it wouldn't make the change. After making the change, the BiaB main screen shows the Bass track as "~~921:Bass, Acoustic, Bossa Ev 110", but when I right click on the bass track and go to the "Assign RealTracks" dialog, at the top, under the heading "Assign to this Track" it displays "711 Bass,Acoustic,Bossa Ev 75", and in the list of RealTracks below, the line for Bass #711 is highlighted. If I click the "Generate Track" button on the "Assign RealTracks" screen, the BiaB main screen shows the correct track # at the top left while the track is being regen'd, but then it pops back the old track number when the regen is done! I've tried this in several differnt songs, including a new 4-bar simple test song I just created, and sometimes I'm successful at changing the RealTrack and sometimes I'm not, and I don't see a pattern. Any ideas?

I think it may be difficult for the users here to help because you have version 2012. Version 2013 that was just released had a lot of improvements in this area of 'simpler' RealTracks, particularly bass. Two patches followed that straightened out some glitches. Many of us could not duplicate your problem now that we have the newer version.
You may have to contact PG Music Support for your question. Or, consider an upgrade to version 2013.

I'm not sure the issue is related to the "Simpler" option, as the inablility to reassign a RealTrack seems to occur whether the "simpler" option is on or off, either at the track level or at the song level.
I guess I could just update directly to 2013 (which I have), skipping 2012.5 (which I also have), and hope that this "glitch" was resolved by a later build.
To Mac: the tracks are not frozen.

Yes, since you have 2013, you might as well upgrade. At least we will then be able to try the steps you report, if you still have a problem.

I figured out what was going on, and thought I'd post it in case others have the same issue.
I found that the "Allow Realtracks substitution based on tempo" box on the "Song Settings" dialog was checked. I don't know when that option was added to BiaB, and I don't know if that was the default setting with the installation of BiaB 2012, but it definitely was not checked on my 2011.5 BiaB. With that option turned off (unchecked) I am now able to properly select any Realtrack. An interesting fact as indicated by the help flyover for the "Allow Realtracks substitution based on tempo" box is that the Realtrack display on the BiaB main screen is preceeded by the "~" character when the track being used has been chosen via substitution.

Yes, that is the tempo substitution feature. I would recommend leaving it on. You can disable it for a single song (via the Song Settings "S" button on main screen).
In your case, you had chosen a 110 tempo Bossa Bass. Let's say your song tempo is 85. This feature will substitute a 70 tempo Bossa bass, because that will sound better at tempo 85 (sped up from 70), than a 110 one (slowed-down to 85).
With the feature on, you don't need to think about this, it happens automatically. So if you have a fast jazz style loaded, and you slow it down to ballad tempo, and press play, you get completely different RealTracks, playing appropriately over a ballad tempo.
The ~~ before a name indicates that a substitution has been made based on tempo The ~ before a name indicates that substitutions are available at some other tempos, but no substitution has been made.
Have Fun! Peter Gannon PG Music Inc.

Not 100% sure but I think the latest simpler realtrack patches also apply to previous biab versions will only update whatever realtracks you have but when you rebuild it will inform you about missing realtracks.
Seems to have happened when I patched biab 2012, I get the message about missing realtracks but otherwise works fine.
