Whenever I open one of my songs (saved as a .MGU file), it always opens with Sample Tank set as the DXi plugin on the Melody track. If I change the plugin on that track to None, or to another DXi/VSTi synth then save the .MGU file and open it again, Sample Tank is always there on the Melody track.
Other .MGU files (which never had Sample Tank set as a Dxi synth) preserve changes to the synth settings when they are saved and opened again, but I can't get rid of Sample Tank on the one song that uses it.
Has anyone else seen this problem and found a solution or can advise me where I might be going wrong?

Hi John,
It could be that the Melody track is frozen. Have a look to see if there is an asterisk next Melody (indicating frozen) or right-click on the Melody track and double-check that it's not frozen.

It could be that you invoked Sampletank as the default main "Use DXi" DXi/VSTi MIDI synth in the MIDI/Audio Output window. If so, change that setting back to one of the GM synths such as Coyote.

Thanks for that idea, but no I have Forte DXi set as the default synth. When I open the offending .MGU the default synth comes back OK but the synth for the Melody track always gets set to Sample Tank regardless of the synth settings I made before I saved the file.

If it is only the one songfile, there is a chance that file is corrupted.
If it should happen again on a New file, suspect the need to perform a Return to Factory Settings under the Options window. Band in a Box writes to a volatile file upon closing, which updates user settings and a host of other things, any time BB does not get the chance to exit gracefully can corrupt that file. Return to Factory Settings restores a known working version of the file and can correct a host of issues.

There's a good chance you have selected a Hi-Q instrument on the melody track in that song. Right click the 'melody' radio button and see if there's a Hi-Q instrument assigned. If there is de-select it.
