Hello

I just installed the 366 update.
When I open the "Browse Styles with Info" I see that my 250 Norton Music styles are gone...
All Norton styles are named starting with a pound sign #
They are still listed in the C:\bb folder but they do not appear in the Browse Styles and if I get them from c:\bb, I cannot access the song demo...
I tried to rebuild the list without any success

Any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks

J-Louis

My Norton styles vanished after downloading 2013 but I got them back by manually loading the Norton .LS3 files through the style picker "edit" function. I was the only one reporting this about a month ago.

If something happened to remove the Norton .ls3 files, you can get the newest edition by going to http://www.nortonmusic.com/support.html and downloading the PC or Mac version.

Whether you install the new ls3 files, or re-install the old ones,

  1. Make sure they are in the root folder (?:\BB on the PC where ? is either the C drive or the external drive letter)
  2. Make sure the norton styles are in the same folder
  3. Make sure BiaB is focused in the root folder (Ctrl+D will bring up the navigation box)
  4. Open BiaB, click the style picker window button, then click re-build

That should do it.

If not let both me and PG support know.

Notes, I see that you answered when I was typing. What would be the name of the folder that they install to in C:\BB?

Well, in my case it did not change anything
I have all the #norton.ls3 files in the c:\bb folder.
I rebuilt the styles window but all Norton styles are still absent, although they still are in the c:\bb folder

The plot thickens!

When I rebuilt the styles it said something like “x number of styles found and they were put in the Other styles found category”. The other styles category was right after all files in the styles list.

For info, when it happened to me after loading BiaB 2013, my Norton files were in the same root folder they had always been in, and a rebuild did not refind them. I had to manually load them. After installing BiaB build 366, they were still there.

I'm not at my machine right now, but this is what has worked for me when I've seen this problem. Exit BIAB. Go find the BBW.LST file in the BIAB main folder. Edit the file with notepad and go to the very end of the file. Make sure the is exactly one blank line after the last entry in the file. Save the file, launch BIAB, and rebuild your stylepicker list and see if the Norton styles reappear.

Unfortunately, even applying Bob Norton's fix and your added line, I have no entries for none BIAB styles in the style picker. I have checked the BIAB folder and the upgraded Norton control files are there - BUT nought.

If the Norton styles are installed in a separate folder within c:/bb then its easy just to go to open within biab and will open no problem.

Not a great deal to have them missing from the stylepicker in fact I find it easier to open them from their own named Norton folder.

When picking up a style outside the style picker, how do you access the song demo?
That demo seems to be available only from the style picker window

I for one would like to know how the Norton styles can disappear from the style picker window...

John

I just tried your fix... and it works!!!! My Norton styles are back in the style picker windows with their demo songs!
How did you come up with the idea of adding an extra line at the end of the .list file?
Thanks for not having to reinstall BIAB.

Amazing John! I'll have to keep that one on file. Thank you very much, I never would have thought to do that.

It's been that way a long time, and I have reported it with each beta. I thought they had it fixed this go-round, but obviously not. Don't know why I thought of that fix, but don't know why I thought of a lot of things. I think it started when I noticed that (and this was many versions ago), the first entry in Norton's LS3 file was appended to the last entry in the BBW.LST file (the two lines were concatenated). So to fix it, it added an extra blank line to the BBW.LST file and the problem went away. Later on, I have noticed in a number of versions where my LS3 file entries would disappear, so I tried the same fix for that, and it has worked every time.

During beta testing, I noticed that the BBW.LST file had 8-10 blank lines after the last entry and that caused the same problem. My fix worked for that situation also.

I think there is a glitch in the parsing routine for the stylepicker in how it handles end-of-file situations for the BBW.LST file, but that would be for PGMusic to answer.

I'm just glad it worked for those experiencing the problem.

Well, thinking back, the Carriage Return is often used as a separator, that's likely the case here.

Rather easy to tell a program to look for the ascii string that represents the Carriage Return.

But I also remember that there is a difference (in text and file parsing) between CR and CRLF (well, there used to be).

Having done some programming in that arena in an earlier life is probably what led me to discovering my "solution" in the first place.

I still throw together hardware dataloggers and still use "numbah 13" as the separator.

Whether a device recognizes CR or CRLF doesn't matter once you figure out which one does what.

x0D 'n all that.
