NOt sure if just me, but...
I have songs created prior to BIAB2013. If I change the chords now in 2013 for same song, the audio stutters after generation..it only plays fine again after a reboot of the machine..
this does not happen if I create a new song in 2013 version.
any ideas?

Likely your machine is getting pressed for resources.
What OS, what processor, how much ram, what is the hard drive situation?
From that info we might be able to come up with a solution other than, "buy a new computer" -- maybe.

What is your machine's score in Geekbench?
What are your checkbox settings in Preferences, RealTracks?

I'd guess hard drive space allocation with the clues given. Of course Mac already asked that.
A new file is not the same as a pre-existing one. With a pre-existing one you start including 'undo' and such that requires storage to accomplish. If you open a new file and generate a song, save, and then start re-generating again I'd bet the same issue occurs. Or at least it's a way to test the theory.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the answers: I'm running BIAB quite comfortably on my Fujitsu U1010. Specs: 1G RAM, CPU 800MHz, 60GB HDD, and using external 500GB drive for my realdrums & realtracks...also on Windows XP (SP3).
I only have the OS installed and BIAB, nothing else...all other services/resources I've turned off...
BIAB runs comfortably with up to 4 realtracks loaded...the problem is only when I change the chords or tempo and regenerate to an existing song

These questions may still help:
What is your machine's score in Geekbench?
What are your checkbox settings in Preferences, RealTracks?

Speed up generation should be Unchecked on your machine. You might also try Unchecking Add Reverb.
We know that a Geekbench score less than around 1500 could be a problem for the last several versions of BIAB. You may simply have a machine that is not powerful enough. But first try what has been suggested here.
I'm guessing your laptop is about 10 years old, right? I know you run BIAB from the external drive, but how full is that 60GB boot drive? You need at least 15% free space. Has it been defragged recently?

Hi Rallypally Seems that you have the same problem that I had - see http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=388109&an=0&page=1#Post388109My old PC motherboard/chip etc gave me Geekbench 1349. That was OK with my old Biab2008 but when I bought the 2013 Everything Pak, I got exactly the same issues. These guys pointed me in the right direction - follow their advise. Defraggler cleaned up the hard drive a bit but I had to check the Do not Allow Fast Generation tab every time, especially when the Style was a RealTracks one, in order to get a "clean" playback and even then it wasnt always good. Worse - the Generation time was a LONG time, especially when you have only made a minor change and want to hear the results quickly. BUT - a new motherboard / chip got me 4228 and (fingers crossed) I have had no more problems in that direction. Way less money than a new PC but I don't know how that works for laptops. Good Luck

I've had the same problem on my old laptop -- and that was 2.2 GHz and 2 GB RAM. That problem had started after installing BIAB 2011. (Supposedly the new version of RealTracks used more real time ressources.) When it broke down and I had to replace it, the problem was gone. (The new laptop is a little faster, 4 cores instead of 2, and has twice the RAM.)

About the only thing you might try with those (rather poor for his purpose) specs is a Disk Defrag. It may help a little.
Perform the Disk Defrag no matter what the routine reports, as in "you don't need to defrag at this time" or a low percentage of fragmented files.
Don't expect miracles, though it may improve things a bit.

Another gig of RAM wouldn't hurt either. BiaB loads realtracks from disk to RAM when generating a song. From there on, playback takes place from RAM. I base this statement on monitoring my own hard drive activity.
1 gig of RAM with XP is barely a little more available than what the operating system chews up. Not much left for BiaB sessions. I have an aging hp laptop that runs xp pro and use it during beta testing of BB, just to prove that it will still work on older systems. It has 2 gigs of ram in it. Even then, a long editing session or the loading of realtracks songs back to back can bring the need to stop, close down and reboot the computer in order to get resources back to the point where it will work without stuttering at playback. I've also noticed that use of a hardware MIDI synth and not a software MIDI synth can extend that certain amount of time before resources get used up.
Of course, the newer, more powerful and faster machines here don't have that problem at all. For example, a dual core AMD laptop running Win7 here, 4g ram in it right now, is a noticeable difference in realtracks loading times and performance. And the Intel i7 machine w/Solid State C drive loads and generates so fast by comparison that it often makes me think that something's wrong until I remember which machine I'm using.

Hello Everyone
Just for the record, I found out that my external USB harddrive was faulty. Used another harddrive, and now no problems.
Thanks again! Rally

Hi Rally,
It may just be a case of loose connections to the actual disk inside the hard drive case, a common problem.
Don't throw that usb drive away before first opening it up and simply pull the actual hard drive out of its connector inside the case, and re-insert it fully. Then reassemble the drive case and check operation.
Those internal connections are notorious culprits in all brands and models of usb drives, all it takes is for one of them to get a little loose or dirty to stop the show.
