I'm still working through exploring all of the functions of my new Yamaha DGX640. Everything is working as explained in the accompanying DVD except the "Harmony" button. Frankly, I don't detect any difference in sound between this button being on or not. But in the DVD video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwQ-6ujYlnw) there is a distinct difference. (Note that "Harmony" IS lit in the LCD when it's on.)
However, when I activate the "Dual" button next to the "Harmony" button, I DO hear two voices.
Is there something I'm omitting when trying out the "Harmony" feature? Perhaps another setting somewhere that needs to be activated/de-activated or adjusted? (I get the feeling that I'm doing something wrong or omitting a step, because everything else on the instrument works so far.)
Any help with a step-by-step procedure to get this to work would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
Bert

Is this the keyboard with the mic input? I thought I played one in the store where you sing in and based on what your playing the output had your voice plus the harmonies, much like using an external box such as pg sells here on the website. I have a voicelive. That takes the midi input and uses it to determine a chord and allows you to be a quartet.
Otherwise is it intended that you play one note and get the harmonies? But based on what? My daughter's Yamaha that sits here has a feature that once you memorize the way the chord button works, it plays as if you pushed 4 keys not one.

The harmony function only works when you are using the auto-accompaniment features. Here are a couple videos that demonstrate ways of making the DGX aware of what chords you want: https://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=dXKc6pIwWKIhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1QHYyZoj9g Does this make sense? The DGX has to be told what chords you want before it can figure out what harmony will fit.

. >>>...However, when I activate the "Dual" button next to the "Harmony" button, I DO hear two voices...>>>
The DUAL button add another voice to the one you see displayed, playing the same note with a different instrument. If you play a C4 with your right hand, both voices will be playing C4, and there will be two different instrument sounds. This is most often called 'Layering."
When you get the Harmony feature going, the DGX will provide one or more notes that are NOT the same as your Right Hand notes.
Hold down the VOICE button for three seconds. You will see the menu change. You now have access to a whole world of submenus that will allow you to control and combine voices in new ways.

That is correct, if you aren't entering a chord by holding down or touching the appropriate auto accompaniment keys and the computer has no data to identify as a chord, you won't have any data to derive more than the one note you are playing at the time.

Aha! That was not explicitly explained in my video. I'll have to explore the auto-accompaniment features first.
And thank for those links!
