I'm trying to create a MIDI file in BIAB 2012, but have been unsuccessful to date. Specifically, I'm extracting chords from an mp3 file, using the Audio Chord Extracter and transfering the file from there into BIAB. So far, so good. ....But, from there I want to convert it to a MIDI file, using "File==>Make a Standard MIDI File...".

This results in a very small _.mid file (approx 1.26kb) which, when I open it in BIAB, only contains the very first chord/measure. I have tried highlighting all measures of the BIAB file before converting to MIDI, but the result is the same.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? (I was able to successfully convert a song from the "BB Extras" folder to MIDI using this method, with no problems...). Or is there some incompatibility caused by the file being created thru the Audio Chord Extracter?

Any help with this would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Is this file containing RealTracks?

Are the Tracknames in Green? Are the Tracknames underlined?

That's important info at this point in time.

Mac,

The tracknames are as follows:

Combo: White - Off
Bass: Yellow - Off
Piano: Yellow - Off
Drums: Yellow - Off
Guitar: Yellow - Off
Strings: Yellow - Off
Melody: White - ON
Soloist: White - Off
Thru: White - Off

No Tracknames are underlined.

FWIW - the file is "Fields of Gold" by Sting.

It could be something that I don't have set right in either the MIDI conversion or the Audio Chord Extracter to BIAB step.

As always, thanks for your help, Mac!

If all you did was use the ACW to create the chord grid, then there's no MIDI yet. You need to select and enable a style that's close to the feel of "Fields of Gold". Hit Play to create the arrangement, and then export to MIDI. It's not going to the be the notes on the original Audio, however. BIAB doesn't do that.

Newbert, the Audio Chord Wizard tries to do exactly what the name implies, give you the chords from an audio file. It's not called the Audio Midi Converter. The only program that does that is Melodyne Editor. Melodyne is a separate program that costs about $4-500.

What the ACW does is help you populate the Biab chord grid with chords saving you the time and effort of trying to figure them out yourself. What's confusing you is all that is is a new Biab song no different than you hitting File>New, entering the chords and picking a style. At that point, the ACW has done it's job and the original audio file song has nothing to do with the new Biab song.

A lot of folks will complain that the ACW is not very accurate. That can be true depending on the complexity of the original audio file. Even if the chords are not exactly correct usually a lot of them are plus it has analyzed the length of the song and it's given you the song layout. Just that alone can be a big time saver. Once the Biab song is created with the chord grid filled out you then are free to make any corrections or changes you want.
