I'm on BIAB 2013 build 366, running on Windows 7 (64-bit).

I use realtracks / realdrums and realtracks for solos and use BIAB to generate all my backing tracks.

I freeze all tracks and then render finished songs to audio track (play / render). This is because I load them on a laptop when playing on stage and this seems to work best - even though the laptop is a powerful beast I have had BIAB lock up / stutter / go weird, if I don't have everything ready in advance. It also means I know exactly what is coming and have no timing issues.

I notice that when rendering this way the drums track (I use realdrums) changes from green to yellow after the render and says that I am using a MIDI kit - doesn't sound like it to me, just seems to be a bug in the display?

Hi palmstro,

It seems to me that you are saying that the Render works just fine, the sound of the Rendered audio song is fine, it sounds to you as if RealDrums are playing in the Rendered version and not MIDI drums, but the Drums label turns to Yellow after the Render is completed?

What happens if you then hit Gen/Play or even Replay at that point?

Does the Drums label turn Green again?

Do Realdrums play at that point?

Does this happen with *every* song and style or only with some Style files, and if so, could you give us the names of some examples?

Your summary is spot on.

Just tried another song - render works fine. Tried playing it back with VST/DXI synth (Coyote) turned off to check it was not playing MIDI drums - I use SD-50 (which is playing MIDI and Audio) and it shows no MIDI drums playing. Also listened to WAV file in Media Player - drums are there and sound like Real Drums.

Play - stays yellow.
Gen/Play - stays yellow. These two I wouldn't expect to make a difference as all tracks are frozen and song rendered so they don't really do anything except kick it into life.

Tried same thing with all tracks muted except drums - same thing.

If I unrender the song, the drums go back green again but don't play at all. I have to reload the song (e.g. previous / next) to get them back again, or unfreeze the drum track and regenerate it.

Happens with every song.

Also tried it with one of your demos - realtrack40 demos - _ROKAARP demo. Same thing - goes yellow on render, comes back green on unrender and in this case plays drums again as track wasn't previously frozen.

Shout if you need more info.

Thanks
Peter

The reason I was doing this render was because I was trying to get a stable file to play on the laptop, where I have been all sorts of problems with locking up / bad sound etc.

Think I've found the root cause of this (and several other problems I have been having).

Problems

1.Stuttering, locking up , bad sounds, pops and crackles on realtracks
2.Access violation on ASIO driver
3.Play/render to audio track - drums colour changes and lose them altogether on unrender
4.Several other strange things like panning mix disappearing / getting reset
5.BIAB playing a song but can't be stopped / paused - only solution is stop via task manager

Solution

Don't use ASIO driver for SD-50 - I'm using MME and all my problems seem to have gone away.

Is this is a BIAB problem or a Roland problem?? Any input gratefully received.

I can't say if the ASIO problem you have is a function of BB or the Roland drivers, or both, or it could even be some settings in your system, setup, etc.

BUT - there is no difference in the audio you will hear when you set it for MME sound drivers, only difference is in the realtime latency, which may not even be an issue for you at all.

ASIO drivers are handy when you wish to do things like record MIDI from software synthesizers and need to hear what you play in realtime, rather than experience a delay between the time the note or key is pushed and the time you actually hear the note. If you aren't doing that kind of work, you don't really have to use the ASIO sound drivers at all, and Band in a Box does indeed seem to work more flawlessly with MME.

Good Troubleshooting, Good Solve.

Thanks for reporting back. Others may come along and find this information useful.

Have Fun!

Thanks for the update - I work without software synths wherever possible (only turned it on because render demanded it) as I prefer the sounds of the SD50 and the realtracks, so I'll stick to MME.

I still occasionally get lockups / bad sounds but I am gradually turning off stuff on the laptop (e.g. turn off wireless) and that seems to help, although I still don't quite understand why it should come to a grinding halt when the highest CPU I have ever seen is 25%, but I blame Windows for a lot as I'm an old mainframe man!!

There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
