Hi, I have a midi file that when loaded into BIB it is all in the melody track, normal, then I follow the instructions posted in this forum not long ago (a link to a BIB wiki)but found out that all the tracks are also on channel 1. Aside from the customary channels for melody, solo, piano, etc. I have no idea what the other instruments channels should be. When I load the same midi file into my daw they are separated by tracks, but again, they are all on channel one, so they all sound like a piano. I have no problem changing the channels to the right ones until I get to the one tracks that are not withing the eight tracks we all know about. Advise appreciated.

Have you experimented with the green Seq button?

I'm not sure what you are asking but...
The Seq button will allow you to look at what channels are being used. Once there, you can do plenty of functions such as rechannel. You will need to be in Multichannel mode to use it. If prompted to change to multichannel, just confirm.

It sounds like it might be a type 0 midi file. Your best best is to open it in RB or another DAW, set the channel assignments manually and save it as a type 1 midi. Then when you import it back into BiaB the tracks should be on separate channels.

I agree, this is typical behavior of a MIDI Type 0 file.
Open the file in Realband, use the Rechannel comnmand to separate to tracks by channels, then export as a MIDI type 1 file and open that in BB.

Hi all, thanks for the answers; to Matt, yes, I did open the "green button" which I have used before with success, but no help, everything in one channel and melody track, but you are all right, it sounds like a type 0 midi file. Man! is there any advantage to write type 0 files? Thanks Mac, I don't use much RB, so I often forget is there. I'll try your suggestion. Again, thanks to everyone.

The advantage to type 0 files is that a number of keyboards and other MIDI hardware devices only accept type 0 files. If you try to play a type 1 through your keyboard, it doesn't know what to do with it.
Most software doesn't have a problem using type 1 files, so I often save files with a (0) or (1) in the file name to indicate the type (zero for my keyboard, type one for my DAW).
