Am using biab 2012.
For example, a G chord in first half of a bar, a D7 in second half of same bar.
The G plays through whole bar, ignoring the D7 chord.
I have tried various bar and chord settings with no change.
Created a short three bar tune with similar setup and got same result.
Any suggestions?

Yes, send the song to support@pgmusic.com

If you have set a 2/4 time sig, it would do that. Otherwise, try one of our demo songs, and angle the chords to see if you get that issue. Noone else had that issue with 2012.

I'll send it to support.
(setting different times inside the bar does not seem to work).

Bob,

If the song is set in a 2/4 time signature, it will not be possible to change it to 3/4 or 4/4 at any other bar in the song. To over come this, when setting up a 2/4 time signature, it's necessary to first set BIAB to 4/4 and then change the time signature of the first bar to 2/4.

In the meantime, you could try entering the chords with a comma and see if that works. Instead of putting G on the first half of the bar and D7 on the second half, try clicking on the first chord space in the bar (where G is) and then type G,D7 with no spaces before or after the comma. When you've typed that, just hit "Enter". Now regenerate the song and see if that works.

Hope this helps,
Noel

I had song set at 4/4.
Inside a bar I chose bar setting to 2 beats.
I then set each chord to 1 beat but second chord still not played.
Just wondered why not.
I'll try your suggestion.
Thanks.

Hi Bob,

When a bar is set to 2 beats, only chords entered on beats 1 and 2 will work. Even though you can enter chords on beat 3, and even beat 4 if you want to, these chords will not play. Using the comma as show above will put the chords on beats 1 and 2.

This is the way BIAB works. The bar template provides 4 available beats and the style and/or bar settings determines whether all 4 beats can be used or only some of them.

Regards,
Noel

The comma separated chords within the measure seem to do the trick.
But came across another problem.
Certain bar areas of song (when I add more mmeasures to song) are a light grey area which cannot be accessed and are skipped over when song played.
How do I get rid of these areas?

Hi Bob,

When you want to increase the length of your song, it's necessary to adjust the song's length in bars.

In the image below, the middle of the three numbers I've put a yellow box around tell BIAB how long the song is. The "36" below indicates that the song is 36 bars long. If the song was increased to 60 bars, then the "36" would need to be changed to 60 (i.e. click on "36" and type "60" in the dialogue box that opens).

Regards,
Noel

I am familiar with that area.
Actually, the light grey areas appeared when I did a copy, paste of first 8 bars to end of 32 bar song. (Could not see how to use repeat here to do it - I CAN use repeat to duplicate bars at end of song to continue repeating there but not for earlier bars to be put at end - here I use copy, paste).

Would like to know how to delete those useless light grey bars.

Try hitting Prefs -> Display -> and at the bottom of that little window, UNcheck, "New line for every section (Part Marker)"...

Professor Bob -

Well, I (and based on the user response when it was implemented as a feature, many others) actually find those grey bars quite useful. But Mac told you how to get rid of them, so we can both be happy.

Also, you can change the width of the lines so they don't take up so much space, but still provide the space between part marker sections.

Usefulness is obviously in the eye of the beholder, but it just gets under my skin when the implication is (and has been expressed many times in the past) that just because a specific user doesn't use a feature, then why have it in the program at all?

Of what use are those light Grey areas then?
Didn't know they are called part markers.
I have manual and did not see in chapter on creating music.
If I knew how they are used, i might make use of them.

ProfBob, the light grey areas are not themselves part markers, although they are caused by entering a part marker. The grey bars are useful to me because they allow major sections to begin at the left side of the screen. I do the same in preparing sheet music, to always start a new section on a new staff. This assists in sight reading, and in finding your place if you get lost.

ps

There is a bit of help if you go to Opt., Preferences, Display. Click on the Help button. It says this under New line for every section (part marker)

When set, most part markers will start a new line on the chord sheet. This makes the sections more readable. It can be disabled for a song using Edit | Settings (for This Song).

[There is also another checkbox having to do with the gray bars at the end of the song.]

However, I did not find anything in the Help, Index menu system about the gray bars.
