Thought I'd give this another shot before I call Tech support. The long, rambling full story is in my last post found here: http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=407099&an=0&page=1#Post407099..but suffice to say that I cannot hear ANY "RealTracks" at all now! This seems to have happened after my computer got a virus which messed with my media stuff. Here is what I previously wrote (with a bit of editing) explaining most of the problem I'm experience with BIAB now: Quote:
Prior to the virus, all I used to do, to make changes to a selected musical style, was to RIGHT-CLICK on an instrument (the ones at the top) and select "ADD/REMOVE REALTRACKS" and the change would result immediately after clicking on the play button. (But, coincidentally, another problem I have, since the virus, is that I can no longer see a single program that I have installed on my computer in the "ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS" box that you get into after clicking on "My Computer" in Windows. I actually had to install an uninstaller program in order to see them and, also, to be able to uninstall some.)
Anyhow, last night I was playing with BIAB and noticed that, after I selected a particular "STYLE" of music, I was able to RIGHT CLICK on the "Drums" and change the drum style. I have to add that sometimes I now get a message saying "Beat Map Stretcher was unable to load in the WAV file" (What does THAT mean???) but I've found that absolutely NO "RealTracks" seem to get added! Indeed, not a single change occurs for any of the "Bass, Drums, Guitar, Strings, Melody, Soloist" instrument options after trying to add a "RealTrack" to ANY of the instruments selected. And, I'm doing precisely what I used to. Right-Clicking and selecting. So this is more serious than just not hearing the guitar solo as I initially thought. Also, now, when I choose a different music style, sometimes all I can hear are the DRUMS in it but NO OTHER INSTRUMENTS! (Are the missing instruments all "RealTracks"?) That is particularly annoying and it happens more than I care to count. Obviously, the "RealDrums" are working but not any of the "RealTracks!
Also, for the heck of it, I did go and check "Reset to factory setting" but didn't notice any change.
I thinking of reinstalling XP but, for the most part, the computer works well except for a few glitches so I'd like to avoid doing that for awhile.
I have BIAB 2013 UltraPak installed.
Hope this makes some kind of sense.

What folder is BB installed into... It is usually c:\bb Where are your Realtracks? They are usually in c:\bb\realtracks. What is the size of that folder? Do our demo songs work? Do MIDI styles work? Des audio work in any application?
Please note, I wouldn't advise a reinstall of Windows, as that likely wouldn't solve it. First lets see if it can be solved other ways.

Hello Peter. BB is installed on my external E drive along with the RealTracks. The folder size of my RT is 54.1 GB. I tried out some of the demos and the MIDI is heard but not the RealTracks!

There are two possibilities:
1. The RealTracks are present, and are generating, but are not being heard because audio isn't working on your PC - if this is the case, when you press play on a RealTracks style, you will see messages in the top title bar, indicating that the RealTracks are being generated successully.
2. The RealTracks are not being found. - if this is the case, when you enter the RealTracks picker, no RealTracks will be listed, or if they are listed the names will begin with N/A. - also, you would be getting lots of yellow messages at the top right of the screen, telling you "RealTracks are not found" when you try to play the RealTracks demo songs.
Which of those 2 above seems to be the case?
Also, If you play a YouTube video, do you get sound? Do you have 2 possible audio sources on your PC? (like a regular audio out, and another one for a USB soundcard or something?

Have you tried, under the Options menu, a simple, "Return to Factory Settings"?
When the issue involves sound, use the SECOND BUTTON CHOICE there, which also resets the Audio/MIDI Wizard.

The former possibility seems to be the case. I get sound from CDs, Netflix and YouTube and the BIAB RealTracks DO seem to be generating but they can't be heard.
I really don't know if I have 2 audio sources, will get back to you on that. (If I can find out!) Strangely, I just downloaded a video editing program and although the video works in it no AUDIO can be heard in it! I wrote to the forum there about the problem just before coming back here. I just checked out the "Sounds and Audio Devices" in "My Computer" and everything seems to be fine.

Hi Rokq, I wonder if the WAV playback level in the secondary volume settings has somehow been set to a lower value. It would be worth checking out. Have a look at the below web page. It tells you how to access these volume levels in Windows XP. http://www.tinyeye.com/avsetup/soundsetup_xp.htmlHope this helps, Noel

Nope, did the checking and had hopes that it was because the "AUX" box was checked (I unchecked it) but the problem persists. Frankly, it is EXTREMELY frustrating as most every time I choose a style (such as a Blues style) the only thing that is heard is the DRUMS! Absolutely NO other instruments can be heard at all! It's as if there is a button somewhere that's been pushed which turned off ALL The RealTracks!! How could this even possible?

Hi Rokq,
That's unfortunate that the link didn't help.
When you get a chance, if you could answer the following questions, it would help me get a clearer picture.
1. What was the name of the virus that attacked you?
2. What did you use to remove the virus?
3. As a consequence of the virus, did you install anti-virus software and, if so, what was it?
4. Is it possible to install the minimum installation of BIAB onto a second computer (maybe a friend's or family member's) and see if the program runs ok?
5. Go to the Realtrack folder on your external drive, double-click to get inside one of the sub-folders within the Realtrack folder and then double-click on one of the wma files within the folder. Can you hear this wma file play?
6. Along similar lines to point 5, it would be interesting to know if the different types of audio files play. If you can also locate a wav file and an mp3 file to see if they play ok (in addition to the wma file above), it might give some more insight.
Regards, Noel

For starters have to say that the issue I was having with the movie editing program has been resolved. Instead of converting my VOB file to .avi I converted it to .MPEG instead and both the audio and video work. Now for this problem. Quote:

(1-3) I don't know the name of the virus, I guess I should have paid more attention to matters but IO knew something was wrong after certain things were acting strange and when I ran an anti-malware/virus program to remove the latest one the anti virus/malware program just disappeared! (And I didn't pay enough attention to what the program was called to get it back!). Anyhow, from then on I've had trouble downloading programs as they would get to the end and then I'd get an error message. Not to mention NONE of any newly installed programs create shortcuts. I was, however, able to download and use AVAST. I thought I had resolved most the issues and, with the help of an uninstaller program, got rid of some stuff. I needed an uninstaller program because NO programs are visible in the "Add/Remove Programs" are in "My Computer." I can only see what programs are installed with the uninstall program. I thought most the issues have been resolved and I could work around problems but THIS one (BIAB), if the virus is to blame, positively needs to get corrected.
(4) No, don't think so. I really don't want to mess with another person's computer.
(5) Ah hah!! But NOT good!! I get a MediaInfo "Class not registered" error message no matter what RealTrack I click on! I have gotten this error message before with more than a couple other programs, usually nearing the end of a download I think. But I'd just click on it and, usually, the program would finish installing. But why I get it clicking on a BIAB RealTrack is beyond me. Moving backwards a bit, at the other forum (when I thought I had a sound problem) I was told to download and install the "MediaInfo tool" (a legit program) which I did. Strangely, now, when I click on one of the BIAB Realtracks I get the "Class not found" error and when I click on OK up pops the MediaInfo tool program and when I close it the error message is still there and I can't get rid of it except through the Task Manager.
Earlier I decided to do a Google search for "Class not registered virus" and saw this:
http://forums.techguy.org/virus-other-malware-removal/1065334-virus-5.html
I think, as a last resort (unless, or anyone else) has a better idea, I'll do what this person suggests (unless you or someone else has a better idea) and if that doesn't work just reinstall XP.
I also did another Google search for "MediaInfo class not registered" and found the following:
http://sourceforge.net/p/mediainfo/bugs/735/
Not much help for my problem and I don't understand this at all:
Quote:
MediaInfo is bundled with all dependendancies (except the one you can find on any Windows, starting Windows 95). A class is registered if you selected the option "Explorer tooltip", and nothing else.
You can remove the registration with uninstall. Then you can reinstall, and the class will be registered again. But this class does not make MediaInfo crashing.
Anyhow, it's not that MediaInfo is crashing on me. It's not. But as I've said, I've also gotten that same error message more than a few times prior to installing the MediaInfo tool. So the question now is, why do I get the same type error message after clicking on BIAB RealTracks?
Oh, almost forgot,
(6) mp3 and wav files work.
P.S. Another search lead me to here:
http://www.moviecodec.com/general/class-not-registered-problem-in-media-player-easily-resolved-6468/
I've read about this "quartz.dll" issue before but am clueless as to how to fix this. (I'll ask my kid over the weekend). Anyhow, I just tried to play a song in Windows Media Player that can be played elsewhere and got this error message:
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."
P.P.S. One more thing. What does the message "Beat Map Stretcher was unable to load in the .WAV file" mean??

Hi again roqk, When you play wav and mp3 files, does this happen via Windows Media Player? The fact that you can play wav and mp3 but not wma suggests that either the virus or the antivirus removal software might have disrupted the codecs. One way to put codecs back on to your machine (if this is the problem), is to download VLC Player and install the program. It's an alternative to Windows Media Player and my personal preference for playing video and audio media. I know that a number of the guys on these forums use this program. You can get VLC player from the below link. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.htmlWhen you install this program, it will become the default media player so that when you double-click on a file, VLC Player will open instead of Windows Media Player. When VLC Player is installed, reboot your machine and then see if wma files play. I suspect that when we get those to play, BIAB will be back to normal. If it's getting to the stage where a re-install of XP is looking attractive, there is nothing to lose by downloading and trying VLC Player. Just make sure you choose not to install the free 'goodies' that so many freeware programs come with these days. These 'goodies' just clog up the system. With XP, I dare say a re-install would require you to download and re-install the Service Packs. It's too long ago for me to remember the intricacies of XP so I'm of limited help. Regards, Noel

As you can probably tell by now, I'm a guy who seems compelled to make a long story longer. So here's the latest (all of it). I was gonna start this by typing "BINGO!" but that might have looked like the problem was fixed, it's not but I think you are spot on about the "codec" thing. By clicking on the Window Media Audio files and getting the error plus the fact that I can't get neither Windows Movie Maker nor Windows Media Player to work anymore whittles the problem down a lot. Prior to your suggestion, I tried uninstalling the Media Player but can't (I was gonna uninstall then reinstall), I also tried to delete the folder itself but couldn't and can't even download another version of it as it crashes right away. I forgot where I read it but the problem MIGHT be with the "quarts.dll". I found this: "When a program uses a DLL, an issue that is called dependency may cause the program not to run. When a program uses a DLL, a dependency is created. If another program overwrites and breaks this dependency, the original program may not successfully run." Which lead to this: http://forums.anandtech.com/archive/index.php/t-1987304.htmlI did a search for "codec quarts.dll class not registered" and found this: http://www.free-codecs.com/guides/How_to_fix_Class_not_registered_or_80040154_error.htmI tried that and got this: Quote:
DllRegisterServerin quarts/dll failed. Return code was: 0x800401254
I'll get my kid to try to install it manually as I won't want to mess with that stuff myself.
Now for your recent post:
Quote:

WMP is hopeless. I tired two different files and got two different error messages leading to here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows...inalid=80040218
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows...inalid=80040154
Quote:

Yeah. While being clueless about codecs and .dlls, I searched for "Is quarts.dll a codec" and got this:
http://www.moviecodec.com/general/class-...ia-player-2746/
That "class not registered" error is a big pain! but things seem to be pointing towards that "quarts.dll". (Losing hope!)

You can get VLC player from the below link.

When VLC Player is installed, reboot your machine and then see if wma files play. I suspect that when we get those to play, BIAB will be back to normal.
I have installed on my computer the following: Windows Media Player, VLC, iTunes, RealPlayer, QuickTime Player and RealPlyer and they all worked except WMP. I thought, for the heck of it, to just go ahead and delete VLC and then reinstall it. Of course after I deleted it I feared I would, as usual, not be able to download/install it without getting an error before it finished but the download completed and was able to install it properly. I rebooted. Yes, all the files in BIAB are now showing VLC as the default player for the files and YES they worked individually with VLC however, BIAB still doesn't work properly and I still can't here the RealTracks demos either.

So the big question NOW is why doesn't the new default player work properly with BIAB but they do individually??

Yea, but I still have one or two things to mess with before that.
Wondering, could this be a DirectX issue? "Besides providing the essential service of passing audio data to the sound card..." I wanted to download/install it again for the heck of it but can't because the installation "encounters a problem".
Thanks again Noel!
P.S. I think I gotta start looking on the BRIGHT SIDE of a reinstall.
P.P.S. Is it possible support could help or have you/we done all that is possible?

'Morning Roqk, I've worked my way through most of your links. It's certainly an interesting problem you have. You mention DriectX. I'd certainly be reinstalling that. The link below is at the MS website regarding reinstalling ... http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/search.aspx?q=directxMy take on all the above is that your soundcard is fine and the files are fine. It's just the link between how Windows uses the sounds in its software. From what I read, re-installing DirectX is well worth a shot. You've got nothing to lose. Regards, Noel

AHHHHHHH!!!! RealTracks still not working! I saw that I had the latest version of DirectX for XP but gave a reinstall a shot. I looked while it was installing and saw that the "quarts.dll" was being installed and I felt good about that. But, still, no go. I'll try support for the heck of it but I guess the only other option (without being disappointed more) is a reinstall of XP. (BIAB will work THEN I hope!!) Oh, when I press play for a song with Realtracks I get the message "Best Map Stretcher was unable to load in the WAV file". I've seen that before. Any clue as to what that is or means?

Roqk, When a song is created with Realtracks, they need to be scaled to fit the tempo via stretching or shrinking. Even though that message says "WAV", I suspect it's working with WMA files and not waves. I suspect that this problem is derived from the problem you have with Windows Media Player. What version of Windows Media Player do you have (found under Help | About)? I have Windows Media Player 11 and all works fine. At this stage, I'd even try re-installing WMP. It's found at the below link. http://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=8163Regards, Noel

Thanks Noel. I was going to do that before but I read that I had the latest version of WMP for XP (32-bit). I think version 11 was for XP 64-bit. I figured maybe mine was corrupt but the thing was that I couldn't seem to get the version I had downloaded and installed again for some reason or another. So, what the heck, I just downloaded and installed v11 for the heck of it. Unfortunately, for me, it's another no go with BIAB. The RealTracks, individually, can be heard with VLC as default player but STILL not with WMP and with BIAB playing the Realtracks aren't being played with either of them as default player. P.S. Just now, again for the heck of it, I deleted WMP v11 and it rolled back to v.9. When I tried to play a track I got the dreaded "Class Not Registered" error. OK, so I installed v.10!! No go either. Clicking on a RealTrack I got an "Unknown Error" (C00D11CD). None of them work with RealTracks/BIAB but they do with other audio files!! I'll be back to tell the rest of the story after I have my kid try to delete then install the quarts.dll (not that it's the problem but it's something that I've seen and can't do myself.). I'll call tech support before the kid comes by though to hear what they say. Anyhow, I'm done fiddling with this. I'll probably just have to re-install XP soon as I'm REALLY starting to want to make some music with BIAB.

Yes, if Windows Media Player can't play its own WMA files, that indicates a problem, since Bsnd-in-a-Box requires functions in Windows that are the same ones that Windows Media Player uses, to decode the WMA files.
Have you called our tech support dep't. I'd recommend a call Monday-Friday 9am-5pm PST and speak with Rob. He can get access to your machine (with your permission of course), and see if he can fix it.

Thanks. I'll call Monday.
It makes sense that the virus attacked the Windows Media stuff as I got it downloading a "free" baseball game. But that's what I get for not having a good anti-virus program installed at the time.

I decided to get my kid over here and do the format/reinstall of XP and partly for fear the computer security was comprised.
Bottom line, BIAB is working perfectly again!!
