I am in desperate need of a mouse-like pointing device. I just bought a trackball mouse but lack the dexterity to use/control it. Does anyone have suggestions? What's the current technology in pointing devices? I am paralyzed with about 50% use of my right (strong) hand.

Hi Don

I'm probably not as disabled as you, but I have arthritis in my right hand and wrist. I have bought an Evoluent vertical mouse which I find is much better that a normal mouse or trackball. A friend of mine who is the secretary at my retirement village has RSI in her right shoulder and also had problems with a normal mouse. She tried my Evoluent and immediately bought one for herself and is now singing its praises to anyone who comes into the office.

Wow, they ain't cheap. The VA will pay if I want to wait a year or more. I was hoping to find something in the US$50 range.

When you are at the checkout line and they ask if you found everything say "Why, are you hiding stuff?"

Wow! See why I love this place!? You folks are the bestest friends in captivity!

This problem IS music-related because, without a suitable input/pointing device, my music career with BIAB is over.

Being so confident that the trackball mouse was the perfect solution, I told Tiffany it was okay to destroy the packaging. Do you folks think that Amazon will take it back? If so, I think I'll try the upright mouse for 50 bux.

Tony, Tommy, and Mario, special thanks to you for jumping in.

Don, I just read this thread.

I have a slightly used Evoluent Vertical Mouse 4, right-handed, that I would be happy to send you. I used it when I had overworked my wrist on a notation project. If you like it, you can keep it until your grant comes through.

Send me a PM with your shipping address.

Matt

Matt, that is a very generous offer - one I can't refuse. However, it says that your PMs are over the limit.

I'd have to concur with that.

I mentioned on the forum that I wished that I'd never sold my old Tascam Portastudio. Rharv then posted and said he would send me one for free if I wanted it!

I did want it, he did send it, and it's a newer model than the one I had.

Lotsa good folks on this forum. Thanks again rharv.

Bob, you just reminded me - I have a Tascam PortaStudio3, 4-Track Cassette Recorder that's just gathering dust. It's complete with AC adapter, manual, and box. I had considered listing it on eBay until I saw how little they are going for. Not worth the effort.

Matt's mouse arrived today. I spent the day outdoors in the gazebo so I'll open it tomorrow if I can recruit help.

Thanks again, Matt.

Don, you'll see that there is a printout in the box. I couldn't find any driver, and I'm not sure there even was one supplied. Even if there were, I always use the newest one from the Internet, and the sheets give you what you need to know to download it.

Good luck.

Matt

Matt, I downloaded the latest drivers from the factory site but they said the new drivers are only necessary when reassigning button functions, use Windows default drivers.

Still haven't opened package. A computer-savvy aide will help tomorrow. I am thrilled at the prospect.

That sounds right. I think I was able to use it immediately upon plugging in.

I have Windows 7; not sure what you have but if it's XP, you still might need the driver.
