I entered notes for a tune yesterday and saved it.
I then clicked on WAV and clicked on DXI - Direct Render (save as a WAV file).
Went OK and copied the WAV to my recorder.
Today I entered notes for another tune, saved it normally, reopened and tried as above to convert to WAV. I played the Test WAV and it ran.
But now if I open the rendered file, a tune sheet with only a C chord in first measure appears.
After rendering, if exit it asks to save file. If say yes, I am asked to save two times in different windows (very confusing).
I had no trouble with the first tune done yesterday.
Any suggestions?

First reboot the computer.

If still no joy, go under the Options menu in BB and choose Return to Factory Settings.

That particular songfile might well be hosed and unsavable, though.

Did Factory resettings and songlist stayed.
Yellow box in upper right says the WAV file saved.
When click "Close" on other window, it still asks about saving file.
This time I say YES and asks for file name; I simply enter the same name, then OK.
Another window asks to save again and I repeat with same name.
In the folder are the two versions (SGU, and render (WAV).
But when open WAV file, that C chord, 32 bar "tune" keeps appearing.
I tried this with a short test song and it worked.\
So, I think I need to redo the 15 tunes I came up with over again.
I'll keep you informed.
(I hope BB does not do this every 10 or so songs where I would need to redo the whole list all over again).
Are there other programs similar to BB that I could purchase?

Bob,

If strange things happen with audio, another option is to "kill the audio". I suggest you take a copy of any rendered files you want to keep before you do this.

To kill the audio ...

Click on "Audio" on the top menu (#1). Select "Edit Audio" (#2). Now select "Kill entire audio" (#3).

Alternatively ...

Select the "Audio" track and then click on the "Kill audio" button (which will be activated if there is any audio attached to the song file).

Regards,
Noel

No good.
I open the rendered file and get that C chord 32 bar layout.
Also, whether I tell it to save the rendered file or not, I always get that first bar C chord showing in 32 bar layout when I open the rendered file.
I tried saving as a MIDI file and file was saved.
I then used a program to convert to MP3.

WHen I try to play back in a media player (the MIDI or the MP#) the metronome ticks sound but then nothing else as the file is played.

What could be happening here?

(BIAB is getting very discouraging).

When you say you are opening the file, are you opening the WAV file, or the BIAB (.MGU) file? The WAV file will not contain any chord information in it; you have to open the BIAB file to get back the chord grid.

Or am I missing something here?

I open an SGU file (that is how the initial tune is saved. All chords show and the tune plays normally.
While this SGU is open I click on WAV in upper toolbars and select
DXI - Direct Render (save WAV file).
I click on Close in that Render window and it goes back to former SGU window.
I then go to File, Open at top and am asked if I want to save file.
I say NO since the WAV I ran tells me the file was saved.
Now I see the rendered WAV file listed but when open it I get that 34 bar sheet with only a C chord at start. If I click Play, all 34 bars play with just the C chord throughout.
By the way, when I start BIAB, that 34 bar C chord sheet always appears first. Is there any way to get rid of it?

By "it" do you mean C, or an empty chordsheet?

There are a few startup options. Go to Opt., Preferences. On the lower left, look at the choices for At Program Bootup, and then three checkboxes below that.

I did find something that works.
I save the song file in WMA format (Windows media format), and tell it not to save.
I find the rendered file listed.
I then used a converter program to convert that file to mp3 (which is ultimately what I wanted), and it worked.

By the way, went to Opt, Preferences and chose do not open with any style or song on bootup (I assume restarting BIAB here).
I exit and restart BIAB and that same 34 bar C chord sheet still appears. I can click Play and the entire 34 bars will play only the C chord.

Hi Bob,

The 32/34 bar sheet you talk about with only an initial C chord is the BIAB "empty" chord sheet. That's BIAB's starting place for entering a song.

Quote:
I then go to File, Open at top and am asked if I want to save file.

At the point in time, BIAB is asking if you want to save the BIAB song, not the wav file. If you click "Save" here, it will attach the wav file as audio to the BIAB song. It sounds like not saving is your best option.

Quote:
Now I see the rendered WAV file listed but when open it I get that 34 bar sheet with only a C chord at start.

This sounds like you are trying to open the WAV file in BIAB. Is that correct? If so, BIAB does not load WAV files to play them, it only loads them to analyse their chord structure. Song files for BIAB are the MGU or SGU files. If you want to play the WAV file, you'll need to use something like Windows Media Player.

Quote:
By the way, when I start BIAB, that 34 bar C chord sheet always appears first.

This is normal. It's BIAB simply starting with a blank chord sheet for you to enter chords.

Hope this helps,
Noel

P.S. If you go to the below link and scroll down the webpage until you get to the section called "Video Archives", you'll find some excellent video tutorials on BIAB that Peter Gannon has put together.

http://www.pgmusic.com/videos.bbwin.htm

Even though some of these are for different versions of BIAB, they are still relevant to the present version.

Now I get the picture (finally, eh?).
I get the WAV file rendered in my directory, then when open it in another program, it plays.
I was trying to bring it up in BIAB to play.
Thanks for your patience.
And thanks for that link above.

There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
