In the 'Notation' window and 'Print Notation' window there are options for what to include in the notation and for printing.

I can't find any options for the following:

1. Bar numbers placement, which includes the part description box attached to the Bar 1 number.

When looking at the notation for a piano part, these are set between the two staves. Is there any way to re-position these above the top stave?

2. In the piano part, the gap between the treble staff and bass staff. Can this be adjusted?

3. Similarly, is there a way to adjust the actual distance between the double staves?

In the piano, part the distance between the bottom (bass) staff and the top (treble) staff of the next line. The default distance is large, almost one and a half inches.

4. Sheet title. Is there a way to add a sub-title centre positioned just below the main title.

I've searched through all the options I could find and the manual. I'd appreciate any help with these.

Thanks.

Hi ClassicMan

Could you advise which version of Band in A Box you are running?

Do you have any notes entered on the melody track? If you do:

1. Click on the note icon (from chordsheet view).
2. click on Print from the notation window
3. You should get a big popup window with many options.
4. If you want more bars per line, you have to do that in Options in the notation window view.

You can do the same thing with other tracks in by selecting B (=bass). etc. in the notation window. I'm sure this is all in the Help feature and a lot more than I've mentioned. Hope this helps.

Hi ClassicMan,

As far as I'm aware, there is no control over bar number placement.

Not that I'm aware of.

I use Notation Editor regularly and I print lead-sheet pdfs regularly, too. If you are wanting to adjust the on-screen display staves in Notation Editor, that can be accomplished using the icons shown in the below image.

What I've found is that PG Music's Notation Editor is the most efficient I have ever used but it's not as comprehensive as a program that is solely dedicated to music notation. When I need more control, I use MuseScore (freeware). Because it reads BIAB files with around 80% accuracy, this gives me a head start when I want to notate a song I've created in BIAB. (MuseScore only reads songs in 4/4.)

Hope this helps,
Noel

Shastastan,

Thanks for your suggestion. I don't use the Melody Track, I'm working in the Notation View of the main Chord Sheet window.

I think I've just about looked through all the option for this.

Noel,

Thanks for your reply. I thought I had looked at everything available for setting up.

There certainly are plenty of options there though.

I found out that changing the nunmber of staves shown per page to a larger number automatically reduces the size of the Grand Staff. Comes in handy for printing piano-only sheets and such.

From the notation window, click on Print. There are quite a few more options in the Print Window.

For Printing charts, I much prefer the Lead Sheet View over the Notation View. You have many more options there, but it does take a bit of experimentation in order to gain insight into the thing, well worth the time spent. Don't overlook the "Fake Sheet" toggle for that view as well.

And use the "Print Preview" option to see what the sheets will look like before wasting paper, it is a true WYSIWYG and I always make it a habit to check the charts out before hitting the Print button, saves not only paper and ink, but time as well.

I really like the BIAB printouts--even better than Finale. They just seem easier to read for me. I haven't been using any printouts from Leadsheet view. I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

Thanks Mac, I'll take another look at those options and experiment a bit.
