Just a reach for a loud "What Da Hell Is That?" coming from a couple of good ole guys with a straw in their mouth and spitting out some juice. Or it may very well be outlawed in (pick a state) Ok, Arkansas. That was just another reach for a little humor.

I.e., it looks different.

Jokes aside (although poor ones) didn't I see one of those in the bar scene of Star Wars? By the way I think I played that joint!

John,

Your talent goes way beyond music abilities.

This is a fine piece of woodworking along with the
other parts.

Ignorance on my part, but what is the instrument name.

I looked at hundreds of stringed instrument pictures via Google.
Notta one like yours.

Thanks for sharing!

It's a 5 string electric Upright Bass. Standard 41.5" scale. Fretless. I totally made everything from raw materials.

Way cool John. Maybe you can get a job with Ned Steinberger! Are you going to wind your own pup(s) for it?

Strings are nylon with kevlar core so am using piezo under bridge.I'm going to experiment with some RS buzzers as piezo pups and my Tech 21 VT Bass pre amp.

I thought they were nonmagnetic from the looks of 'em.

Like the old little bitty Ashbory Bass?

What is the pickup then?

My bitty Ashbory still turns in performances that people mistake as being from an upright bass fiddle...

Aren't the Ashbory strings more like thick o-rings stretched out? Rubber, that is? I'm thinking of the Fernandes bass that I have played a couple of times at stores. From what I recall, they were nearly the same thing. Same with the U-bass ukulele bass with the same rubbery strings on them. These strings are probably much more stiff from what John describes.

John - I think the RS buzzers are pretty much what the K+K line of pickups are. http://kksound.com/products/doublebigtwin.php I have their mini pure western installed in my Larrivée acoustic guitar.

What are you going to use for a pre-amp? Self-made I'm guessing.
