Hi,
am loving going through the showcase on this forum and loving the high standards of the songs there. I was just wondering is band in a box and its allied programs used in professional recordings. I keep seeing that something called Komplete is the software of choice.
If anyone could point me to such recordings so I can hear for myself I would love it.
Again many thanks am traveling to the UK soon to pick up my version, so I can bring down the standards around here smile

I am not aware of any "professional use" of Band in a Box or Real Band such as Nashville artists. They have the money to hire the best session players in Nashville for their sessions.

I have several of my tunes signed into some of the major film & TV libraries and constantly submit more to them. The songs do use RB tracks.

Komplete (by Native Instruments) is a synth and sound sample library that IS used by many musicians who are writing for film and TV. It is considered to be a good basic synth for that purpose. Actually Komplete is a collection of synths from NI. The flagship synth in that is Kontakt. Very nice synth. I have the old K-6 version.

Generally, the professional song libraries with decent connections will turn down anything that sounds fake or midi based. I doubt that it would be easy to get a BB song with midi tracks past most of their screeners. Use of Real Tracks and good editing is not an issue as I said.... I have a number of tunes signed by some majors.

One of our long time members we haven't heard from lately is Harvey Gerst. He owns what appears to be a big multimillion dollar studio in Texas and has a recording resume longer than both your arms.

He talked a few years ago about how he will use the RT's to add some "sweetning" to lots of studio sessions. If all he needs is some good country rhythm guitar and the studio cat has gone home and the client doesn't want to pay him another $300 to bring him in again Harvey can create an RT and just plug it into the mix.

Another very active regular here is Matt Finley. He uses Biab to do the basic creation of his original songs then uses that as a road map for all the studio players to record their parts. Therefore Biab is not being used for the actual tracks but it is used for the initial songwriting process.

A lot depends on your definition of Pro. I define as any use by anyone getting paid and in that sense a lot of folks here are using BIAB and getting paid for it so Yes.

Thanks for the replies and link. I guess it's a sticky subject of what counts as "professional", I play and sing in bars for money but I certainly wouldn't say I was.
What I was really after was folk who have used BIAB on recordings one may have heard in the charts.
Anyway thanks again, great that this is such a friendly forum.
cheers Steve

yeah that's what I gathered .... who in Nashville, with star status, with chartable music, and a record contract, is using PG Music software BB or RB to finish their songs?

That, I would like to know. You would almost think that if this were happening, and PG Music got wind of it, they would have it used as promotional material for Band In A Box to advertise it's capabilities and sell more copies.

There's a huge difference in my book between using BB to write a song and let session players replace the tracks with live players..... and leaving the real tracks in the final mix for radio.

There's also a difference in using BB/RB in a big commercial studio somewhere that gets it's bread and butter from small time musicians doing demo's and album projects with very limited budgets as opposed to the stars who also use that studio with enough of a budget to get the best pickers in the area to play live.

And yes.. the definition of a professional is in one sense, one who makes a living from what they do. I played in bands and did make my living from it. I did not hesitate to call myself a "professional musician".... but to each his own.... some define it as a certain level of skill.... in that case.... I might be disqualified.

Another factor to consider is that it is highly likely that those who may be using BB for songwriting, demo or other purposes and also have a name in the industry are not going to be very likely to advertise the fact.

The concept of Band in a Box is little understood, even among users of the program, as evidenced by some of the misconceptions seen right on this forum sometimes.

Perhaps it is best for the famous users to avoid the problem that public mis-perception would likely bring.

Of course, all of the above is purely conjecture.

I do think that the day is coming, though, when the so-called "hit" music may indeed involve automated production techniques of one kind or another and Band in a Box is certainly well-positioned within that arena.

Given the criteria stated in your first paragraph, I am aware of no one who would be using BIAB.
