I am having issues with soloing and not aligning to the beat. I am fine with comping but soloing is my issue. I have been advised to solo with the help of a metranome but I am playing with BIAB often. Is there any way to get the metranome clicking on my 2008 BIAB every time I hit PLAY?
Go to prefences/Count-in/Met.. At the bottom of the dialog is Metronome Options. For Audible Metronome, check out the options in the pull down and pick "Record and Play". That should do it.
In BB.... why not use the drum track? Kinda like jamming to a real drummer.
I haven't used a metronome in years and years in anything I have done musically in my studio. The drums are sufficient. Even stuff without drums, (some bluegrass stuff) BB will generally give you the first 2 measures of a count in and from there, the music will guide you.

Practicing with the metronome and playing along with backup band are two entirely different things with entirely different goals.
Just as the athlete works out with exercises designed intelligently to increase an athlete's abilities, proper and repeated exercise through use of the metronome can serve to eliminate bad mechanical habits that chew up realtime needlessly, bad mental perceptions that serve to mask problems that go unheard simply due to the mental processes used while playing, and a host of other issues that may go unheard or unnoticed by the musician - but all work against the ability to create Strong Performance. Every. Little. Bit. Counts. Or doesn't count, as the case may be.
Very cool. When he went into counting 5 beats per measure my ears perked, but then he played in 4/4 and let the metronome cycle .. then it got interesting.
