Hi All
I sometimes get lovely long cymbal crashes on my holds and at other times get more of a shot - much too short.
Is there any way of controlling what the program generates.

There are techniques in the song form itself, such as using a four-bar ending, which allows a cymbal to fade longer. Or, as I normally do, make your own ending and put a hold on the chord, then lengthen the ending bar to six or so bars farther forward. Then, as I'm sure you have discovered, place a different chord at the end with a single dot to rest all instruments. Any chord will do, as long as it is not the one that was held.
If these do not help, look for a different variation on the RealDrum pattern, or choose a different RealDrum.
ps Ian, I'm assuming you are referring mostly to an ending. If that's not the case, let us know some more specifics.

Here's a scary answer, You can edit the <realdrum>.txt file Take a look at http://www.pgmusic.com/tutorial_realdrums_stylemaking.htmSearch down for "Shots Definition" It says: Here are some examples of defined shots:
Shot,1,82,-2,455,1,100
Shot,0,83,5,360,1,90
Shot,1,171,240,200,1,80Find the same in the realdrum style you are using and comment out the ones you don't like  Put a semi-colon ; at the front of the lines you want to comment out. You can pull the .wma into a DAW and jump to the measures indicated to hear the shots. So you know what they are. Put all your own edited files in their own isolated directory with new names. Make backups. Don't try this unless you're really adventurous!

Yes, a good idea. You can alter the RealDrum characteristics (but not yet the RealTracks).
Make a copy of the .TXT file after you edit it. Otherwise, yours may get overridden in the next patch.

Hi Matt
Thanks for the input. I am really referring to holds during a song. eg holding 1 bar and then getting back into it. Sometimes it holds for the bar and other times it just cuts off.
I just like to know how to control the holds so I am not surprised.
My endings usually hold OK.

You may want to try using a MIDI drum sound where you want the 'hold'. That can very easily be controlled. RealDrum 'holds' may take several tries before getting the result you want. You can 'Freeze' the drums once you like what you hear.

My endings usually hold OK. It would really help if you identify and tell us the exact RealDrum file that this happens with, so others can see if it can be duplicated. Even better, and maybe easier, too, would be to either webpoost the song somewhere and post a URL to that here, or if that's difficult, send me a PM here with an email address for you and you can attach the songfile in a reply to me and I'll take a look at it. FREEZE all instruments in the file and then Save if you have it playing wrong, that helps tremendously. --Mac

I have prepared a song file with the tracks frozen demonstrating my problem with holds.
I will send you the file and see if you can work out what is going on.
