Greetings fellow forum-ers...
This is driving me nuts. I suspect everyone has asked this question at one point in the past - How do I change the spelling of the chord???

For example, I have a 5-1 pair of chords Eb7 - Ab7.
BIAB insists on making the Ab7 a G#7.

HOW do I change that???

much thanks,
phil

From Mac's post, you have discovered one of the seemingly least known important facts of BIAB. The program makes intelligent decisions based on the key signature. The first thing I do starting a new song is set the key signature.

BIAB 2025 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 7 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Presonus 192 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Slate VSX, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

Hi pg,

Could you please give a little more information. What doesn't seem to work? What is your key signature and what chords are a problem? (The key signature is located beside the tempo on 2014.)

Kind regards,
Noel

Sigh,
My humble apologies. My whole thread was simply not clear.

I'm in the habit of creating practice songs where I go through the circle of fifths. So specifically in this instance, I have the song set to the key of C, and at one point the 2-5-1 will be displayed as Db-7 Gb7 Bmaj7.

I would prefer it to read C#-7 F#7 Bmaj7.

I'm not at all certain how to do that...
much thanks,
phil

Hi Phil,

Put the mouse cursor on the bar in question, press F5 and try setting the key signature at that bar to B major. What BIAB displays is dependent on the key signature that is set.

When you change the key signature, it will probably make some of the latter progressions show up differently and, if it does, you'll need to adjust the key signature at those bars.

I suspect that you have the original key set to C. While this will work for many of the progressions, it has limitations.

Hope this helps,
Noel

Thanks much Noel (nice music on your vimeo site btw),
That didn't work. Not a big deal, it's mostly an issue with the cycle stuff anyway. It'll sure teach me to know the enharmonic name...

Hi Phil,

Thanks for listening to some of my music. Much appreciated.

What version of BIAB do you have? A change of key signature usually resolves enharmonic issues. Did you try changing the key to F# and C# major too? That's worth a shot.

All the best,
Noel
