I bought 2014 and down;loaded it yesterday and tried to set up songfile. I get at i/o error at the end and I have 9000+ blank line items in my songfile.

I go through the songfile sequence and get an i/o error at the end. It takes a long time and this is a very frustrating result.

Any suggestions?

Is there a way to input songfile data from biab2013?

Hi John
I'm not sure I have all the answers.

Was the song file you set up a new song, that you just started since upgrading?

Could you explain in more details the steps you took when you mentioned: "I go through the songfile sequence and get an i/o error at the end"

Songs from 2013 will work in 2014, you do not need to create new songs just to run in 2014

Have you tried "Return to Factory Settings" from the Opt. menu?

I suspect that the new songfile is corrupted, That's why I'm interested to know of its origin.

Give us a little more information and somebody will be able to assist, I feel sure.

Regards
Trevor

Thanks.

well, I hit the song button, got the blank songfile, set it to the directory I wanted and hit "create songfile". I have a lot of files, so I let it run overnight.

I'm not talking about songs, I am talking about the LIST of them that is compiled by the program and saved in a songfile.

Hi John,

With the Song Picker, there's a limit of 25,000 according to the Help file. Would you have more than this?

Also, am I correct is assuming that it worked for you in BIAB 2013?

Regards,
Noel

John, by any chance, did you install BIAB 2014 to the /Program Files folder?

Good. How about Noel's question, how many songs do you have?

Try splitting up that single folder into multiple folders with less songfiles in each. Maybe arrange them alphabetically.

Then you can compile a Songlist for each seaparate folder - and if you run across a corrupted songfile that stops the show, it would be much easier to find that file from that standpoint.

As it is, if there are like 9,000 songs in one folder, or even in subfolders within that folder, and the routine runs into a corrupted songfile, you won't know which one or more caused the problem.

The problem might also be due to a fragmented drive as well. DEFRAG the drive.

Maybe that 25,000 is not a hard number.

I recall a similar question about this or something like it a decade ago, and PG Music simply changed the upper limit; problem solved. Maybe it's time to give them a shout?

And Mac's method is worth trying to whittle down the number of songs that may contain one that is corrupting the process. If nothing else, that's a lot of songs to wade through even if it worked, and some organization might help you find a song faster.

I'm going the try some organization route and see if I can get that to work, I'm starting with one reference folder that I use for looking up songs I hadn't performed before. Bough it on Ebay. 10,000+. That's the one I REALLY need to index.

I got nothing much. Is there any way to import the 2013 song picker into 2014?

John,

As far as I'm aware, the 2014 Song Picker is the same as the 2013 version. That wasn't changed in going to 2014. With the redesign of BIAB, all that changed was how to start it.

I just did a forum search and I found a thread that was started by you exactly 12 months ago about the same problem. It seems that I posted a link in this old thread that helped with the solution. It might be worth having a re-read.

link to last year's thread

Hope this helps,
Noel

Noel, in that thread (thanks), Peter Gannon said the limit is 20,000. Maybe the Help you found that said 25,000 is wrong?
