Despite doing this each and every year for over a decade, installing BIAB and RB never seems to be fool-proof, at least not for this fool. As I scanned over the README and files on my 2014 Ultrapak HD in preparation for installing over 2013, I noticed that there is an executable in the PGMusic folder called "bandinabox_realband_setup.exe". Now this has me puzzled, as the readme says that "setup.exe" in the main folder installs both BIAB and RB. It also says to navigate to the PGMusic folder to install all other programs. So, what does "bandinabox_realband_setup.exe" install, if not BIAB and RB? And, is the order of the files in the PGMusic folder: amplitube, bandinabox_realband_setup, hi-q...sampletank, and sampletank_2.5, the order in which to install them? Seems installing sampletank and then hi-q files might make more sense, but I don't know.
If you have a minute, I'd appreciate your help, and thank you in advance.
Bob

Hi Bob,
When I installed 2014 recently, I ran "Setup.exe". It worked for me. My take on it is that setup.exe is the master installer that calls on the other .exe files as needed, depending on which installation option you choose. I suspect that the BIAB/RB file you mention is simply the one that installs the programs to the hard drive without installing Realtracks/Realdrums if that option is chosen.
That's my view, at least.
All the best, Noel

There should be a file on the drive, "READMEFIRST".
Wonder why they named it that?

Thanks Noel and Mac.
Mac: Thanks. I've read the readme, and it didn't answer my question.
Noel: Did you also install the four programs in the PCMusic folder as well as BIAB and RB? My best guess is that the file I've question installs some ancillary programs, not BIAB nor RB. I just wanted to be sure that there wasn't an accidental duplication and relabelling of the true BIAB/RB setup.exe in the PCMusic folder.
Cheers,
Bob

The main two program installer will just install BB, RB, PGMusic Fonts, PGMusic plugins. The addons and other stuff each have their own Installer file, for example, the IKMultimedia installer for Amplitube and Sampletank, or the installers for any PGMusic addons. Is that what you are asking? --Mac

Thanks Mac. The true question is: What does bandinabox_realband_setup.exe install? I was unable to find that information in the README file. Did I overlook a section? Bob

A quick update: For those installing the Ultra Pak --
From my own experience installing 2014 earlier today and from a short conversation with PGM tech support, the best I can determine is that bandinabox_realband_setup.exe is the specific installer for BIAB and Realband, as Mac says.
If so, the README is (at best) confusing, as it says that after installing BIAB and RB via "setup.exe" in the root directory, any additional programs are located in the PGMusic folder. Here's what it says:
"The only things not installed by Option #3 are the videos, and programs other than Band-in-a-Box and RealBand. You can find these in the PGMusic folder, or by using the 'Custom Install' option."
My original interpretation of this is that files in the PGMusic folder are not part of the general installation and must be installed separately, after BIAB and RB. This is not correct. So, just use setup.exe in the root and don't worry about the PGMusic folder for your initial installation. If you find something is missing, explore that folder afterwards.
Sorry for the confusion, but...
Cheers,
Bob

I think it depends upon which pak each user purchased, Bob.
Those who purchased the paks with the bonus stuff may find the installer for these in the pg music folder. etc.

Thanks Mac. I edited my earlier post to reflect I was talking about the Ultra Pak installation.
Best,

Is there a readmefirst document for those of us who are downloading the PlusPak? I don't see one anywhere.

I did not get a readme first.rtf file with the download of the Ultra Pak, so that's probably also true for other downloads.
