Hey BiaB club members,
I have always used my Stereo Mix for recording many things. A lot of YouTube and other things. Lately just getting started with BiaB I thought I would record some song ideas I have with it. Find a nice chord progression from some famous song. Put some new instruments in it. Write some lyrics and find a new melody. Just working on a few things for some material for my grammy award winning Sly Ruby album lol.
Anyway just for some quick demos to listen to I have been using my Stereo Mix(Later I will be using RealBand of course)just to hear how it is coming along. But for some reason I lost my Stereo Mix. I see it in the mixer. I choose that as my default but there is no output. No audio coming out of it. I reinstalled the driver again and still nothing. A couple times I did that and I got it back once for a few mintues. An output but then it was gone again.
I was going to blame my new installation of the Roland QuadCapture interface since that was something I was just dealing with. I had no clue but I had to blame something. So I wanted to be sure so last night I thought ok just reinstall Windows 7 fresh. Everything is installed but still today I have no output on my Stereo Mix.
I would like my Stereo Mix back so I can quickly record some BiaB song ideas. Why not conveniently use that before I get serious and bring it into my DAW. For now I guess I have to go without. I am thinking something happened to my On-Board sound card hardware. Something in that just went out. Or then my conspiratorial mind said some company wants Stereo Mix out of the picture and has SABOTAGED it lol. Like Microsoft. But I am sure they didn't do it because Stereo Mix is still there. They would just eliminate it.
Ok anyone that wants to rattle on about their Stereo Mix ordeals or has any information for me let me know. Thank you

When using an aftermarket Sound Device, the onboard sound device with the Stereo Mix feature may become disabled.
Control Panel, Sounds, etc. to re-establish System using the onboard sound device as default when the aftermarket is unplugged.
Also, if you've set BB or RB to use ASIO sound, or ASIO5ALL wrapper, it may be necessary to set those to "MME" Windows Sound Drivers to avoid conflicts when wishing to simply record output using a standalone recording program.
The "ASIO Always ON" setting inside BB/RB may also be hogging the driver at the time.

I am not using another sound card. It is just my on-board sound. Suddenly my Stereo Mix is just not working. I know about enabling it and disabling it. I have used it for years. I have dealt with Stereo Mix before if it ever went bad. Usually reinstalling the driver will fix it. This time that didn't work. And I even resorted to re-installing Windows fresh again last night. That is how much I want my stereo mix back.
Stereo Mix is showing up in the mixer but it just doesn't have any output. I guess this time my stereo mix problem seems to be hardware. Something went wrong with my on-board Realtek sound. If even a reformat won't fix it then nothing will I guess. I will just have to go without it. It is just something I like having to use with Audacity and record various things. YouTube, and lately some quick demos of some song ideas coming from my BiaB tracks. I guess I am out of luck. Thanks for trying Mac.

Do you have it selected in the RECORD properties mixer view (NOT the Playback mixer...).

I'm confused. Sly, you said you have a Roland Quad Capture. Are you not using it? Why use the onboard Realtek at all?

A lot of aftermarket recording sound devices don't have the cool "Stereo Mix" or "What U Hear" feature that allows for recording that which the computer is playing back without leaving the digital domain, Matt. Resorting to jacking the Analog Audio Out into the Analog Audio Inputs is the only way they can do that, and then you suffer the added - and not necessary - conversions, first the D to A for the output, then the immediate A to D at the input, which means you won't get a true digital copy of the thing, plus you will likely introduce needless jitter.
The "Stereo Mix" option keeps it all in the digital domain.

Oh, I know that. The Quad Capture has TRS audio out, but I thought perhaps you could get audio via the USB 2 connection. I have not worked with that unit, however.

Yes I will be getting into using my Roland QuadCapture. I just reinstalled windows 7 I will get into it asap. I was just using Stereo Mix for recording some things. I think I will just forget about Stereo Mix for a while. Live without it. I reformatted to try and get it working again but it didn't fix it. So I thought maybe it just went out on the motherboard. But who knows.
Lately I was working on some songs with the help of some great chord progressions from some hit songs I really like. I wanted to see what I could come up with using some of them. Just for ease of use I was using Audacity to record me singing the new songs. I guess I wasn't on Stereo Mix to record them. It is just how I had the PC output going into the input of my Yamaha sound mixer that helped with that. Then output from the mixer back into my system. But I just sold that for 80 dollars to recoup some expenses for all the things I bought. But now I guess this Roland QuadCapture might not be doing that. How the mixer had the ouput of the pc audio going into it them I sing with a track and then it goes back into my pc for recording. Maybe the QuadCapture won't work in the same way. So I can record quickly with Audacity like that. I will have to figure this out. I will try not to inundate everyone with too many questions before I start trying to familiarize more by just putting some effort into it. I hope so. But I do appreciate the responses to my questions. You learn a lot faster when you have someone explain something.

Well when you do get your system running the way you want it Sly, if you haven't already done so do an image backup with acronis true image or a similar program.
As you probably know saves hours and hours if you ever have to install again, just do the image backup instead.
I never really liked windows backup so I use acronis.

These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
