I've noticed a difference since I've upgraded to BIAB 2014 when I drag and drop files into my DAW (Reaper). The method I've always used is to go into a split screen scenario and manually drag and drop each .wav track from BIAB into Reaper. As soon as I drop the BIAB file into Reaper, the "busy" icon comes up (Windows 7) and does its thing for about 1-3 minutes - and then the new track pops up in Reaper and Reaper is ready to go.

Before BIAB 2014, BIAB was immediately ready for me to drag and drop the next track into Reaper as soon as Reaper indicated the prior track transfer was complete.

Since BIAB 2014 however the "busy" icon continues to whirl in BIAB for another 1-3 minutes before disappearing and indicating BIAB is ready for new action.

Effectively this is doubling the time it takes me to drag and drop my tracks into Reaper. I don't have a clue what BIAB 2014 is doing in that extra time it's consuming.

I'm wondering if I have something checked or unchecked within BIAB that's asking BIAB to render each track to a second mystery location after the initial render into Reaper. I haven't found any folders full of .wav files, (other than the ones I've purposely wanted to send tracks into...)

I've tried it with the Opt/Pref/DAW Plugin/"Use a custom folder location for the Drag and Drop" box both checked and unchecked - and either way BIAB still continues on for 2-3 minutes after Reaper finishes with the DnD process.

I also tried dropping the master track into Reaper as separate files and it took over 25 minutes for the 7 BIAB .wav files to transfer into Reaper and for BIAB to return to the ready state. Does this time frame sound typical?

It was a lot faster for me with BIAB 2012! Otherwise I LOVE BIAB 2014!

Thanks for any helpful thoughts/comments you may have.

*I found that telling my antivirus proggie to ignore bb speeds things up a bit, but I don't use Reaper so can't be certain about this issue. However, the time it takes bb to startup was quite long before I did that, and there were a few other 'wait states' such as you describe that, while they are still there, are certainly much shorter.

Also, running as Administrator seems to make a little bit of speed difference as well.

Sometimes Drag 'n Drop to an Explorer Window, then from the Window to the second program seems to work well here, too. Added advantage is that I get an automatic "archive" of all tracks dragged.

HTH,

Those are all good ideas which I will give a try, Mac... I especially like your automatic archive idea.

I'm sure somewhere deep within the workings of BIAB 2014 there's a reason for what's going on - way beyond my BIAB pay grade to figure it out though!

Thank You!

I am experiencing the same thing dropping into an Explorer folder (I drag all my rendered tracks to a folder before opening in a DAW).

It does not occur on the first drag and drop. But all subsequent drag and drops do exactly what you describe - the spinning icon for quite some time before "ready to go" for the next one. Did not occur in 2013.

It's always good to find out I am not the only recipient of a particular BIAB curveball Floyd... Thanks for your input. (BTW, my post .wav file transfer BIAB wait times occur in all DnD scenarios - even the first...)

I spent most of last night exporting .wav files out of BIAB in every configuration/location I could think of - all with the same "post .wav file transfer BIAB wait" results we've encountered here. Mac's anti-virus suggestion did seem to speed up my BIAB 2014 opening time a bit, but had no effect upon the .wav file transfer time.

Gotta wonder what BIAB 2014 is doing in that extra time that it didn't have to do before?

If I get the chance/inspiration, I might just call customer support later today and get their opinion on it. My fear is I might be too computer-challenged to understand the answer!!

It's surely not the end of the world, but why spend 6-7 minutes to accomplish something that only used to take 3 minutes if there's a chance it can be fixed? A year's worth of DnD transfers times 2 = a lot of extra minutes spent staring at the little spinning wheel/hourglass icon!

Maybe there's a trade off going on inside BIAB's miracle works we are not aware of...

Thanks again...
