I create 4 bars with repeat symbols (let's call this A) to have it play twice.

I then create bars 5 - 8 with repeat symbols (let's call this B), wanting B to play twice..

When hitting PLAY, I then want A to play twice, then B twice, then A twice more, B twice more before ending.

The best I can get to play is A once, then B once, then A and B a second time before ending (I indicate only 2 choruses, along with 8 bars).

How do I get 2 plays in each with another repetition of same before the ending?

I would just enter it in without any repeats. It's too short to have to deal with repeats. i.e: A-8bars, B-8 bars. Length of chorus- 16 bars, number of choruses-2. Later, Ray

What Ray said.

You can easily copy 4 bars again by using the K4 command...

I know it is short but I am trying to figure out how to have them repeat as described as a "test" case because I will be creating some songs with well over 100 bars.

Those darn repeat signs have always been problematic for me, I save them only for use in Printing out sheets where minimizing the paper might be of use.

The K command is not only quick to do, I find it much easier to print out the bars when working up a songfile, never know what you might want to do to a few bars as the thing progresses and the Repeats just further complicate that process.

YMMV and good luck,

You've got 255 bars to work with. Use them all. When I first tried to use repeats some years ago, sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn't. Now, I just don't use them, especially when it's so easy to copy using the K command. Later, Ray

I just use highlight and Windows copy/paste, which has worked long before the K command was implemented.

The first thing to remember is that repeats are a print function. Your song must perform correctly in a linear form before getting the fake sheet to work. So all the hints that the forum has given you are correct.

Now think how this song might look in fake sheet mode. The first return is easy, and so is the second, but how to get the chart to show a complete repeat takes some thought. You really can't put another repeat followin section'B'. The best idea would be a DS, either al coda or al fine.

The DS would be at the end of section B, the sign would be at bar 1, the start of section A.

This is right on target. The best way is to lay out the song in a linear form AND THEN add the repeats, etc. No need to enter multiple choruses though.

I don't plan on printing anything out.
I play banjo and use BIAB to create background music which I convert to a WAV file that I then put on a recorder.
I play back the background music and play the banjo along with it.
Much more pleasant than using a metronome.
It is no problem just using copy, paste instead of repeats.
Thanks for all the input everyone.

By the way, how is the K4 command used? (I am using BIAB 2012).
I tried K4 after blocking in a few bars but nothing happens, even if I move to empty area and use K4 again.
I checked the Reference page at back of manual but no listing for K4 under Hot Keys list.

Profbob:

This won't likely be any help since you're using 2012, but BIAB now has a "Song Form" function. You just say:

- A starts at Bar 1 for 4 bars
- B starts at Bar 5 for 4 bars
(etc. if you want more)

Then you just say, play my song like this:

AABBAA

That way you can revise how A and B play without any copying or pasting. You can try to find it in 2012 but I think it appeared in 2013.

Good luck!

from the manual available from the help menu though not easily found unless you know the K stands for Quick Copy Method

”K” Quick Copy Method
By simply typing “K” at a bar followed by the Enter key you can instantly copy the last 8 bars to the current
position. By adding additional keys in the K command, you can customize this shortcut (e.g. typing K 12, 3 would
copy from bar 3 for 12 bars to current position.) The current position is advanced to the bar beyond the copy. This
speeds up song entry!
For example, if you're entering a song that has a repeating section of chords for 8 bars. Type in the first 8 bars of
chords, and then move to bar 9 and then type: k, Enter.
The last 8 bars will be copied to bar 9-16, and the cursor will be moved to bar 17, so you're ready to continue with
the tune. If you get to bar 25, and would like the chords from 1-8 to be copied to 25-32, type k,1 and this will copy
8 bars from bar 1 to bar 25.
The chords always get copied. The Melody, Soloist, and Lyrics also get copied if these items are set in the Copy
Chords and/or melody dialog

Thanks for all that helpful advice.
I'll also consider buying latest version of BIAB.
