Trying to pan a bass and drum part with bass hard right and drums hard left using the CoyoteWT. The bass works fine but the drums stay center no matter what I do. Either using the track pan control or controller 10 at the track start. Using the configuration panel pan seems to affect both instruments so does not seem to be the solution. Is this a limitation of the CoyoteWT?

Hi Andrew.

The Coyote WT is a General Midi (GM) synth and GM drum tracks tend to be a pre-set fixed stereo spread, so the pan control isn't going to be any use. The bass, on the other hand, is a mono track and should respond to panning.

The way forward would be to convert the drums to a mono audio track and pan that. Alternatively, you could use a dedicated drum VSTi, with access to volume and pan for each drum sound. There are quite a lot of good free ones around.

I have just verified that the Coyote WT Dtums will not respond properly to PAN commands in PT, RB or BB.

Funny thing is that the VU meters in RB do indeed show the Pan as working, but the darn drums still keep coming out of both monitor speakers.

Surely this must be a bug of some kind...

At this point, having duplicated the problem here, my recommendation is that you should begin your search for another and different software MIDI synth solution, there's plenty out there, really, look for compatibility with your OS, also a full GM bank plus Upper Banks availability.

That way you not only can Pan the Drums as you need to do at this time, you will also likely find much better and richer sounding instrument patches to use as well.

If you start another Thread here asking users which software DXi/VSTi MIDI synths or samplers they like with their pgmusic softwares and your OS, you will narrow your search a bit and can avoid going down paths already proven to be less than desirable.

What Mac said about starting another thread but to get it started you already have SampleTank for free (if not go get it) and those drums can be panned.

HOWEVER, while SampleTank is GM compatible it is NOT a fully GM complaint softsynth (DXi/VSTi) even if you spring for the inexpensive Omnisynth 2 add-on (usually on sale every few months for ~$15). You have to put few moments/minutes into putting desired instruments where you want them (part and channel) especially DRUMS on Channel 10.

GOOD LUCK - whatever you do
Larry

Upon further investigation turns out I can't pan drums using the commercial (aka paid for) "Coyote Forte Dxi" either.

I never noticed this (I don’t use it much either except as a quickie sketch pad) before.

this is worth an email to Coyote (which I just sent)!

Here's one way to Git-R-Done:

Render the Drum Track to an Audio Track.

Then PAN the Audio Track and keep on trackin'.
