Here is a wonderful new Breath Controller (BC) for keyboard players. It has both MIDI and USB output, so you can hook it either to a stand alone keyboard or your computer. http://www.tecontrol.se/products/usb-midi-breath-controllerYoutube video using this TecBC with samplemodeling sounds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUJBW9w_MQo&feature=youtu.beThe Yamaha BC3A is no longer made and that only worked with Yamaha keyboards which had a special dedicated BC ports. It costs 160 Euros with 10 Euros shipping cost to the US.

Good find on that Demo Youtube, Dan.
Yes, my tired and good old BC3 does indeed work well with my Kurzweil. Have also kept my one remaining Yamaha keyboard around, the good old W5 fully loaded with every "extra" soundbank they sold, even though some of the sounds are rather dated today, that Breath Controller input alone justifies its existence and "earns its keep" here as well, although these days it tends to stay in the home studio while the Kurz gets to go out to gigs and party.
It is good news indeed, though, that there is an alternative available, but I do wish that it didn't have to involve usb via computer for implementation in live performance, but the laptop or the iPad now seems to be part and parcel of the stage gear.
Been checking out the "one-chip" air pressure sensors available from a few electronics vendors, there are several that were designed originally to be used as barometers, pressure sensors for automotive and other uses that look to be great candidates for the electronics experimenter to "roll their own" Breath Controllers with minimal parts count. Stay tuned.

Actually this is the combo MIDI DIN/USB http://www.tecontrol.se/products/uni-midi-breath-controller150 Euro's (plus 10 E shipping) Plus 30 Euro's for the optional headset (not required, but I couldn't use my actual BC3 easily without the headset part) http://www.tecontrol.se/products/breath-controller-headsetAgain if I didn't already have a BC solution setup I'd LOOK at this (the USB + MIDI + headset) as a possible breath controller solution. However, in dollars that's anywhere from ~$136 ( USB only with tube) to $246 (USB & MIDI DIN with tube and headset) in today's euro to dollars conversion. Larry

Larry, I've got to order those sensor samples.
5VDC, one chip, converts air pressure to exactly what we need here, which is the analog voltage into the 5V A to D.
Looks to me that the range choices are right in the ballpark for the task at hand, give or take a bit of empirical experimentation and perhaps a bit of application mechanically at the bidness end...
Direct connect to keyboards with the Breath Controller input then, next step would be to locate a USB board offshelf that has the A-D already in it and can then cover both worlds. Hopefully this USB board will be a Class Compliant one, eliminating the need to roll a driver.
I'll keep ya posted.

I have the USB model and I am very happy with it. I would unhesitatingly recommend it.
