Just looking at the hardware section here on this Forum and wondered if I could use this interface cable to record guitar rythm through my guitar effects box via Computer USB to Band-in-Box. Or,should I just go direct through mic input jack?

The Roland MIDI adaptor is for MIDI data ONLY.
If your guitar is not a MIDI output guitar, then you need to get an aftermarket USB AUDIO device that has an Audio Input designed for electric guitar input in order to record what you play as Audio into the computer.

Mac was answering the same time as me.
For better sound quality you could use either the line-in jack on your computer or an external audio interface.
The Roland device works with midi, not audio. People use it to connect sound modules, keyboards or midi controllers to their computer.
The microphone jack on a computer has a different input impedence than your guitar so the guitar output signal will likely be distorted. Many computer mic jacks also have signal amplifier to boost weak microphone signals. The amplfier could distort your guitar signal even more or make controlling the volume level much more difficult to control.

Guitar hookied directly to Line Input is not a good thing either, due to the low impedance of the Line Input, which will load down the output of any electric guitar that does not include its own built in battery powered preamp.
You'll record sound that way, but it won't sound right, typically a loss of highs will be the result.
Good aftermarket device made for the purpose of Direct Recording the output of the guitar is the best way to go.
Presonus makes a nice setup that gets good reports as to working well with PG Music softwares. There are others.

Thanks guys, I have a two midi output jacks on my GNX 1000 Guitar work station which interface with what ever midi in and midi through devices are out there. I just thought that might be the way to go. Oh, by the way it also has a USB cable connecting it to the computer and into recording software that came with the GNX Workstation. Wonder if that would work with BB?

If the GNX 1000 Guitar work station has MIDI out, then the Roland UM-One should interface fine.
BIAB & RB2026 Win.(Audiophile), Windows 10 Pro & Windows 11, Cakewalk Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Session Keys Grand S & Electric R, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M, Pioneer Active Monitors.

For a lot of those Guitar Effects/Amp-Cabinet Simulators, the MIDI port is solely involved with communicating to and from the device in the way of Commands such as which Effects to invoke and when, etc. - and is NOT useful for recording MIDI notes.
They also use their USB ports to do the same thing, which means that a direct connect to computer is already available for that sort of MIDI data.

If the GNX 1000 Guitar work station has MIDI out, then the Roland UM-One should interface fine. Of course, it will only deliver the MIDI functionality that has been designed and integrated into to device, no more, no less.

After talking to you guys yesterday, I got off work and went home and looked at my rig. I actually have a Digitech GNX 3000 workstation, which has both Midi thu and Out, plus a USB cable that plug into my Computer and interfaces with GNX Software,Pro Tools, which creates wave files in the software. I was still wondering if it(GNX)would interface with BB, or would I have to make the Wave file in the Pro Tools software, then import into BB that way. I want to do this because the user track capabilities of BB and Real Band really interest me. I have yet to find a style that would emulate the style the Ventures use on Tequila, pardon spelling. A good user track would allow me to make this style so that I can realistically play the song with the right rthym.

David,
Do a web search using the term "tequila midi file" and bunches of results will pop up. One of the better sites is vanbasco's midi seach. The site has a pretty good song list grouped by decade.
Most midi files focus on the original version released by The Champs. TheVenture's version is VERY similiar.

Thanks Jim, but I would like to learn to create it myself. I will look at it though. Most of these type of files have pushes in the wrong place in BB and it's hard to get timing right. Thanks again for quick response.
