Band-in-a-Box output from computer via line out is in mono - not stereo as intended. Seems to be same problem playing wave or MP3 files from computer although I know the system can play in stereo when using a stereo image test on the soundcard.
Any ideas?

Try clicking "GM" above the tool bar, then "Set panning to stereo".

Hope this works for you.

If mp3 and audio files played back using the WMP or some other player are in mono, then the GM Stereo toggle inside BIAB cannot be the culprit, as that is for MIDI only.

Check everything in Control Panel -> Sounds to make sure something hasn't been toggled to mono, also check the software playback mixer for the soundcard for same.

Also check cabling used... the stereo mini jack cable from the soundcard may not be stereo, but rather a mono 'y' cable or something similar.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

There's a neat utility built into Windows called "DirectX Diagnostic Tool". To run it, click Start/Run/dxdiag.exe/Enter.

On the "Music" tab, go to the window at the right center of the app. Highlight each port and click "Test Direct Music". (Note that hardware MIDI ports don't make sounds.) If any issues are found, the result will show in the "Notes" window at the bottom. You also get to hear a really cool MIDI composition and how different it sounds played through various synths.

The "Sound 1" and "Sound 2" tabs run through a series of samples played at different rates in mono and stereo. Again, if there are issues those will show at the bottom of the applet. I mention these last because you already know it's in mono and maybe the above will show something. But I'd run these, too.

The "More Help" tab has links to various troubleshooters.

You can also test other systems on your PC with this utility.

HTH,

R.

Make sure the cable is plugged all the way in! Pull the cable out of the speaker jack, and then push it back in all the way.

If not that, then get a set of computer speakers, and plug them in and see if you get stereo.
