I really am enjoying BIAB and REAL BAND..its just great.

What I would love, and I would be willing to pay for it...

I would love to be able to get the midi file out of biab that it creates for the REAL DRUMS, and I would love to be able to load the drum samples that are used by REAL BAND in another DAW program.

I use Sonar. So VST would be best..and most universal I assume, AU for mac guys.

I want to be able to fine tune the REAL DRUMS arrangement myself...and If I could get my grubby little hands on the midi file and then load the drum sounds that real drums is using into a VST sampler host (kontak?, a sound font player like SFZ , whatever ...) I would be in heaven.

It would also work with other musicians I work with, people who have edrums setups, I write the song using the sounds of real band, they can then play the song how they feel, and I can tailor the midi track they send me (velocities, note mapping) to then play the sounds of Real drums...

As I said, I would pay for this, no probs.

So PGMUSIC any chance of this happening in the future...?

Even If I could purchase just the drums sounds of REAL DRUMS to use in another drum host.

cheers

Wiz

Real drums, or RDs are not midi based, nor are they drum sample per se. They are full length audio wave files that Real Band and or Band in a Box chops up and configures to match the part markers, style information, and chords of the song.

The problem is that other DAW softwares do not function like this, so it is not possible to make it so. There are a few possibilities though. When you make a RD track, export it as a wave file and open it in Sonar. This works great, i have tried it on several songs. Secondly if you are working with midi tracks from others, open them in RB and make your Rd and so as above. Lastly use a good midi drum program like Jamstix to either follow the midi, or jam with the midi or audio tracks. It is worth a try, as it has a free demo, and works great in Sonar. Jamstix has all the toys you want, velocity, and note mappings, and tons of features to custom tweak a midi drum track. I use it on projects in both RB, Cakewalk, and other DAW packages.

Actually I would doubt PG has any desire to make RDs and RTs for that matter a VSTi plug in, for all other DAW programs to use, it would take away from people using RB as their recording DAW. That is the purpose of designing these special built in features, to promote the use of their software packages. Don't sell RB short, it can make some very nice music and many of the DX and VST plugs that work in Sonar will work also in RB.

I think a lot of folks think that at first, cause that is what we are used to. I certainly know where you are coming from. I have been very happy so far with a combo of real drums, and Jamstix, together it seems i get what i want.

If they were done as a sample set, they'd likely sound just as mechanical as "the others".

I don't think it is the sample that causes this, it is the MIDI driving of those samples.

The RealDrums are real drummers playing entire riffs, phrases, matter of fact an entire song. Then the pgmusic program manages to take those apart into sections and reassemble them to suit your song.

This is one of the reasons why there are limits to how far we can stretch the BPM slower or faster for any given RealDrum file.

Any sample set will sound mechanical, since as Mac said the midi data is driving the exact timing when the notes hit and how. It would take a few minutes but a drum track made with jamstix can be very humanized by adjusting the perameters in the main screen, and also by making a few minor adjustments to the midi notes, vary the velocity and timing ever so lightly.

I have quite a few songs with Jamstix track, and i can hear the difference when it jams to a song. The rolls, flams, and such are far more real sounding even having lags and variances in them as a real drummer would. Above and beyond that, and we might be listening a tad too much. Most people can not tell the difference. I have had people ask who played the drums for you.

Also be aware that there are static MIDI drum tracks that are not the same as LIVE MIDI drum tracks.

Live MIDI drums are typically recorded as MIDI using an electronic MIDI trapset and a real drummer. These can sound very realistic indeed.

I like the realdrums very much, they are fantastic as the realtracks.
The PG Music idea is genial!

But I must respectfully desagree with MAC: not all the drums samples are static!
I use VSL Vienna Intruments Jazzdrums ( http://vsl.co.at/en/67/4587/5392.vsl )
and they can be more alive than realdrums.

Bandinabox 2009 + VSL Vienna Instruments + Sample Logic The Elements
are all I need for making every possible kind of music!
