Version: Band-in-a-Box 12 (build 31) OS: Mac OS X 10.5.6 Processor: 1.67 GHz PowerPC
When I go to "Edit"-->"Chord Settings" and then attempt to click on measures 2 or 4 or whatnot so that I could change chords on them, it causes the BiaB to crash ("The application Band-in-a-Box quit unexpectedly..."). This happens ONLY on my PowerPC Mac, NOT my Intel Mac. I wonder if anyone else is experiencing this as I looked on the forums and Google and could not find anything. I've already tried deleting the preferences and removing/reinstalling the program. I'll look around and try to find out other information regarding this, but if anyone knows, please let me know. Thanks!

I can't reproduce the problem on my PowerPC.
When clicking in the chordsheet, nothing happens. I think you need to select the measure first before opening the "chord settings" window.

I get exactly the same behavior on my PowerPC with the same OS version and BiaB version. Selecting a measure does not make any difference.

So the problem seems related to the OS version. I'm using 10.4.11.

Thanks for your responses. No wonder I don't recall this happening before. I have a feeling it might have to do with running Band-in-a-Box on Leopard (10.5) and a PowerPC processor. What I will do for now is use my Intel iMac to edit parts and then play the parts back on the PowerPC when I am at school. Fortunately, I run Back to My Mac and can access the Intel iMac from school. Time to buy a new MacBook Pro! :P I use Band-in-a-Box only for practicing over chord changes and whatnot--don't need any fancy-snazzy. And just to inform, the "Chord Settings" dialog box DOES open on whatever measure I select BUT when I click on the radio button for beats 2,3,4, etc., that is when the good old spinning beach ball appears and then crash, the above-mentioned error message pops up.

Hello,
Does it also happen if you click on the radio buttons in the Chord Builder, or is it just the Chord Settings? Also, not sure if you know, but you can enter chords on the 2nd and 4th beats by using a comma. For example if you type ,G7 this will enter a G7 on beat 2 or 4. So there isn't anything in that dialog that you can't do via keystrokes on the main screen...

Hey Andrew, thanks for the quick reply, and you are right--it is when I press the RADIO button that causes the issue; I can get into "chord settings" just fine. Oh yeah, and I seem to recall from my computer music class (YEARS ago...) that you CAN use commas in between the chords to put one one each beat--so sorry I forgot--I didn't even remember that there was a key command for that. I'm more of a keybord inputter than a mouse clicker myself anyway, so that sure works a LOT better. So now what I did was, for instance, select the beat one, and the type "G7,Gb7" (without the quotes) and then it inputs G7 and Gb7 on beats one and two respectively. Could do the same on beat 3. I'm really heavily relying on BiaB for my last year of jazz music studies degree as a jazz guitar major because a) no one to jam with b) no time to play gigs and c) need to memorize tunes and learn patterns. Thanks a lot, and sorry for looking like a dumbass--next time I get a crash, I will refer to KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS! So looks like I can save my $$$ after all. And when the new BiaB for Mac comes along, I will buy that--where can I apply to become beta tester, if needed? OK, never mind--I will save that question for a different thread. Thank you again!

And that is what BIAB is really all about IMO.
I wish you all the best on your endeavors.

I started running BIAB on Powerbook Power PC using OS 10.3.9 w/no problems, then I upgraded to 10.5.4. Since then chord builder crashes as well as chord settings. I have made a few postings on this forum w/no definitive help. This seems like a software upgrade problem. I am pretty disappointed because I cannot use BIAD to change chord settings or create my own songs. If anyone has solid experience w/this issue and a fix I would greatly appreciate it.

i in stalled BIAB on my wife's iBook running 10.3.9 and chord builder works fine. It appears that BIAB is not functional in Mac OS 10.5 running on a Power PC machine. It would be nice if PG would acknowledge this software fault and offer a fix for this.

I'm sure that pgmusic development is aware of this thread and if they can come up with an update fix, they will.
Just can't figure out why this isn't at least equally Macintosh's blame...
They are the ones who must have done something to cause the bug to happen when they coded 10.5, one would think.

I can't see why this would be an Apple issue since it is the software developer's responsibility to ensure their product runs on the Apple operating system - unless there is a unique incompatible issue w/OS 10.5,(software) Power PC's (hardware) and BIAB (software) that disables the Chord builder function completely. I'm guessing the current BIAB Apple version was developed before they worked out the 10.5 compatibility issue, there have been no real upgrades to this program since. As it stands BIAB is pretty useless to me - I can't change chords or create any music on my computer. I will use my wife's computer in the future which is not convenient. It would be nice to hear from PG acknowledging this issue and when/if it is going to be resolved.

You can use the program by using keyboard shortcuts to enter chords instead of the Chord window command. See the post above concerning that.
