For 2016 or 2017 I would like to have PGMusic clean up the bb directory to make it more clear. This could be in conjunction with going to 64bit and longer style names because some the changes might affect the same program procedures.
In my case there are currently some 11.000 files and folders in the BB root directory. If I clean it up, and I would need to reinstall I'd do this work again and again.
I understand that this is a legacy problem. In the olden days the names of files and directories had to be very short. So it was easier to store everything in the programs root directory and have a very shallow depth for the directory tree. Today this is somewhat watered down and now we can clean up those full and confusing directories.
I would like to see something for Styles similar to the RealTracks. The music files like 50Songs, Classical Midi-Fakebook2 and such could be in a separate BB-Music directory. Tell me in the name of "unins???.exe" what is affected. Then I could delete those no more important -- and retrieve the necessary file from my backup if needed. There are more options, I'm happy to create a model directory.
Guido

... Guido Guido, great ideas, but please don't let Mal Evans know that 2016 or 2017 might be a suitable date for 64 bit!

HA HA .... Very funny VideoTrack.
If it takes so long to achieve what needs doing, then I would seek out the necessary programmers to do the job quicker. That way all would benefit.
It's a great idea GHinCH. +1 from me.

If it takes so long to achieve what needs doing, then I would seek out the necessary programmers to do the job quicker. Thank you for the "+". More programmers will probably not increase the speed of development. There is too much knowledge in the software to enlighten new personnel fast. I had a job once where I helped out in another department one day a week. Usually it was not very busy that day. But somedays I could not finish the work and had to do it the next day. For me it was the next day, for the customer it was next week. Publishing a release once a year says, what we cannot get done this year, must be postponed to next year. But then all development must be done so that new features must not affect the usability of the program if they're not part of the next release. (That is hard for me to concisely phrase in English...) There are so many current wishes that require so much work under the hood and it is not really possible to change pistons and adjust the ignition at the same time. Believe me, I want a 64bit Band-in-a-Box also. It would simplify my computers life. But I want - a 64bit Band-in-a-Box that also can handle my 32bit DXis and VSTis (as long as I have 'em),
- a 64bit Band-in-a-Box that is already prepared for additional and future features in files, even if that currently means a little (!) overexploitation of disk space.
- a 64bit Band-in-a-Box that is able to read and write legacy mg? and sg? files
- a 64bit Band-in-a-Box that grows together towards a 64bit RealBand
- a 64bit Band-in-a-Box that has the same look and feel as a 64bit RealBand (like most Adobe Software products for instance)
If PGMusic hasn't yet started with 64bit development, which I doubt, then the 2015 release is not realisticly possible to be a 64bit Band-in-a-Box. And to download something close to perfect in December 2015 or even 2016 I value higher than to have another banana on my harddisk in December 2014. Guido
