I got the new BiaB yesterday and the first time it started, it was fine and I was enjoying looking around. The second time I started BiaB I got an access violation error message and BiaB showed a message of "not responding". The program would not close down properly and even in Task Manager it would not end when selecting "End Process". The only way to end BiaB 2015 was to shut down the computer and restart.

I upgraded from 2014 and am a long time user. I have a home built computer (made in 2010) with 5 HDs (3 internal) 12 Gigs of ram, a pentium i7 CPU and an NVidia Geforce GTX 470. It is running on Windows 7 64 bit. Sonar X3, Soundforge and RealBand run well.

The error I get when BiaB 2015 starts is:

"Access violation at address 00401D55 in module 'bbw.exe'. Write of address 2AC7DCC0 at 00401D55."

I did go to PGMusic and download the new version 414 with all the RealTrack files and installed that. I thought maybe it was a corrupt download of the orignal BiaB files. The problem again started after the initial opening of BiaB.

This is frustrating and I see no other topics related to this (other than one that was for BiaB 2010 and that guy got no response. I'm hoping somebosy knows what might be happening. I have sent an email to support about this problem but, hey, it is the weekend after a Holiday and before the next Holiday. I doubt anyone will be in the office this week.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rich Rayer

Rich,

This sounds like Windows is preventing BIAB from operating properly.

The first couple of things that I'd try are ...

1. Before starting BIAB, right-click on the shortcut you use to start BIAB and select "Properties" from the pop-up menu. Under one of the tabs, you'll find the option to set "Administrator rights". Activate that. (I also have my BIAB running as compatible with XP.)

2. Now try starting BIAB. Does it work?

3. Can you get to the "Opt" menu and activate "Return to factory settings"?

If not ...

4. Go to the \bb directory and rename the files "intrface.bbw" and "mysetup.dk" to something like "intrface.bbw.old" and "mysetup.dk.old". This stops BIAB from seeing these files that contain settings and is the ultimate version of "return to factory settings". (When looking for the file names, be aware that "intrface.bbw" does not have an 'e' in it.)

5. Try starting BIAB to see if it works.

Let us know how things go.

Regards,
Noel

P.S. If BIAB still does not work, please let us know the directory that BIAB is installed into. (e.g. is it c:\bb, c:\program files\bb, etc.)

Okay, Thanks!

I did as you suggested and renamed those files to get back to factory settings. The midi and audio interface options caused some errors the first time I tried. I got this error:

BiaB Error Message "Invalid pointer operation at:
00499A82"

I rebooted my computer and restarted BiaB in SP compatibility mode running as an administrator and right now everything is working as is should. My fingers are crossed that it will stay good. I have not had any of these kind of problems in my previous versions of BiaB. I had most of the versions since BiaB 7 (or was it 9 - it has been so many years that I forget).

BTW my BiaB program resides on Drive F:/bb/PGMusic/Programs/bb. I'm not sure why it got buried that deep but my last installation was from a PGMusic hard drive.

Thanks again and I will let you know if it stays stable or not.

I still get the occasional access error in BIAB 2015 (and a LOT in Real Band) though I have done new installs of each. It may be no solice, but when trying to use Task Manager to kill the processes fails, it is quicker to "Log Off" than to do a restart of Windows. Log Off does a better job of forcing programs to close for some reason.

Rich -

You can always "unbury" your installation of BIAB by moving the "deep" bb folder to wherever you want it located.

So, if you for example, wanted to install BIAB into F:\PGMusic\bb, you could just click on the F:\bb\PGMusic\Programs\bb folder in Windows Explorer, hit CTRL-X to cut it, then highlight the F:\PGMusic folder and hit CTRL-V to copy it. Since it's on the same drive, the move will happen pretty quickly.

Once you do that, however, I would then get the latest update patch file and run it, selecting the F:\PGMusic\bb folder as the installation folder, just to make sure everything is pointing to the right place.

Open up BIAB and then make sure your RealTracks and RealDrums folder settings are pointed to the right place, rebuild the style picker, re-associate MGU/SGU files with BIAB, and you should be good to go. You will probably also have to re-assign your desktop icon to the new location.

Thanks for the great suggestions jford and phillyjazz. I will move the file up to a toop level on the hard drive. I think I am have a bigger issue and nothing to do with BiaB. I have had 6 BSOD today and a numerous amount of "Windows has stopped working and needs to restart".

After checking in at my local computer tech center, I believe my C: drive is failing and will need replacing. Ugh how I hate to think of all the software installs ahead of me. The drive is 20 days short of being 5 years old and is a Western Digital Black hard drive which has a 5 year warranty. Whether it is really dying or not, it probably will need to be replaced soon anyway. I don't have an image file because it has always failed when I try do make one (over the past 5 years). I have Acronis bought and paid for and it won't save on a USB drive OR at least I can't get it to save on USB drive.

Looks like my New Year is starting off just peachy! frown

Again Thanks for the help,

Rich,

I don't know how old your computer is but ...

If the BSOD errors are memory errors and not hard drive access errors, the issue can very well be the power supply. If the power supply is the same age, or older, than the WD black hard drive, the capacitors in the power supply may be allowing voltage fluctuations into the motherboard.

It could be a lot less hassle to replace power supply than hard drive.
