Since I recently upgraded my DAW to a new computer c/w Win7 I find that I cant use my SC8820 any longer. I did a search and found some conversations back in 2013, but while they were helpful they didnt work. I also tried downloading Rolands driver for Vista but it kept sliding me off into some other software that I have to pay a yearly subscriptions for downloads. Not being familiar with them I choose not to go that route. After spinning my wheels for the last two days does anyone have any suggestions for a card. I liked the midi ports on the SC because I used to sync Power Tracks to my Roland VS880ex.
That way I could make separate tracks for the BIAB parts then put my own parts (bass, rhythmn, etc) as I needed. Would appreciate any and all comments. Thanks, Dennis

I assume you are talking about a Roland USB driver for the SC. You are right the Vista 64 bit driver will not run/install in Win 7 (however, I don't get any subscription - paid or otherwise, links???

http://roland.com/support/article/?q=downloads&p=SC-8820&id=1812428

But I run my (bigger) brother SC-8850 off standard 5-pin DIN MIDI cable when in Win 7. (or off RS-232 cable when I use with Win XP laptop) ?

SO not sure what you are missing? All you need is a simple USB to MIDI box (e.g., 1x1 or 2x2 or 8x8 M- Audio MIDI Sport) or cable like one sold here:

http://www.pgmusic.com/rolandum-onemk2.htm

or look around at Amazon, MF, etc.

Larry, thanks for taking time to reply. I used the um-one and successfully synced my VS880 to Realband 2015. so the um-one works. Hve to try it with PTA yet. I slaved RB to VS880 as the master. I can get BIAB2015 to produce accurate sounds, Blues Piano works as does Master Jazz. what I cant get are any sounds out of RB. I loaded the F blues.seq into it and it shows all the tracks and mixer movements but I get no sound. Device is set to MME in options. Comments from anyone please.

addendum I just loaded one of my own audio recording and it played fine.

If you have Windows 7 pro or above, have you looked at the virtual windows XP from Microsoft so you can run the software in a virtual environment?

How are you connecting?
Have you gone to MIDI Output Drivers and selected the correct default driver?

You may need to make it the only one highlighted and move it to the top if trying to use Master/Slave.

If meters move and sliders move, it's sending MIDI 'somewhere'.

Been away a few days belated thanks for the queries. CornetNev-I don't know what you are talking about. Where can I go, what do I ask, to get further info. I do have Windows Pro 7 though. Rharv-I went into Options>Pref>Midi Devices=Input UM-One, =Output UM-one (selected), Microsoft GS Wavelength Synth (selected), MS midimapper (not Selected). Sample sequence F Blues the mixer meters show levels. The main output levels at screen bottom show no movement. Frustrating because I had a previously set up DAW running XP pro with a Layla external device, a VS880 fully synced to PTPA. Now the older I get the less smarter I am. Anyway thanks guys for any further infor and your time. Dennis.

Try unselecting the GS Wavelength Synth in the Output table and make sure UM-1 is the only one selected and at the top of the list (there's a button for that).
Also make sure 'Reroute all MIDI to DXi synth' is not selected in the MIDI devices window.

rharv, thanks for following up. I had the properties set up as you had suggested except I also had GS wave highlited. I just have the um-one now highlighted and at top of list. Still no sound. missing something as simple as "plugging the computer in" . I am certainly missing some setup and configuration knowledge here. Dennis

How is the audio from the synth connected so you can hear it? If going through the computer;
You may need to select the correct audio input in RB to hear the synth.

RHarv.just to let you know I finally got sc-8820 in the system up and running. As suggested earlier I used the Vista 64 bit driver took a few tries setting the preferences but I now have sound out for RB midi and wav, sound out for BIAB, and my VS880 is synced to RB. Thanks again.
But now for next step.
I was previously running a 16 channel mixer through a Layla 20 system. There are no drivers or workarounds for this device (boat anchor!)for win7. I still need to interface my live sound to my computer so I can use RB and Reaper. I saw some earlier dialogue back in 2011. Eddie recommended an M Audio Fast Track Pro. My question is what is the current "flavour" for inputing sound into the computer. Sure would appreciate some feedback in this area. I am starting to get excited about getting my studio up and running again after numerous moves. Thanks, Dennis
