I hope this is a quick one - it's one of those situations where I'm searching Biab itself and the manual, and I'm obviously not quite finding the right words.

It started from the fact a C7 I'd entered was playing as 'C7 and then some' - I didn't particularly mind, but wanted to pin down why, and how controllable it was - I remember reading bits and pieces
about this in the past.

So I'd be grateful if anyone could tip me either the relevant menu(s) in Biab and /or the exact term I could scan the manual with (obviously 'harmony' tends to mean something else in Biab, and phrases like 'vary chords' or 'enhance chords' haven't turned anything up. )

Thanks

Hi Ian, try "embellish." There'll be a lot of hits, though, and you may have to hunt around. There seem to be several settings that can contribute to what you heard, and they're sorta dispersed around. For example, in the style editor under the misc button, there's a guitar macro button. On the subsequent screen, check the flyover for the "embellish pattern OK" switch. Pretty obscure, huh? A more prominent setting is on the song dialog (S button, main screen), where you can switch on "chord embellishment." EDIT - Another setting - and in line with Mac's post: under the opt button for the piano/guit/strings parts in the style editor, there's a per pattern setting for embellishment.

There may be similar settings scattered elsewhere in the program. A tutorial on how to control chord embellishment (if there's none now, don't know) would be welcome.

HTH, Ron

Chords can also be embellished by certain Styles chosen, too.

For example, a C7 chord in a jazz style might be played with embellishment by the jazz pianist and/or guitarist. Maybe change it to a C9 or the like. This kind of liberty with the chord is commonly done by live musicians also.

I'm in your debt, again.

I think those references, checked in the relevant style, pretty much nail the issue, and show that I could keep the C7 'lean and spare' if I preferred. It's interesting, mind, how clearly Biab targets that chord, which is the Dom 7th of the home key, so I suppose it's not surprising. But pretty much all the other chords (some vanilla, some much more interesting) are rendered as spec, and it gets piled on that C7. Which probably suggests there are some strings we can't see or get at ?

Mac

I understand what in real music-making Biab is trying to emulate - I was just interested how much control I had.

At least it shows the old ears are getting more discriminating !
