OK gang, I'm reeady to go. <G> I have a 500 Gig Seagate and preparing to back up the audiophile drive.
So I assume.......
I plug both in and power up the Seagate. I open both HDs in My Computer and simply drag every folder over. Vista Home Premium.
Or is there a better way?
Thanks WSS

That should do it.
Expect it to take some serious time.

I'll bet that's true Mac. So I plugged into my older XP machine and opened em up. Dragged the entire PG folder first expecting a long transfer. But it stopped saying there wasn't room enough for the copy. I'm guessing that meant the HD on the old machine NOT the Seagate 500. So would I open up THAT folder and drag each individual one over ya suppose?
Anyhow I'm gonna try it and see if that works! WSS

If you copy all your files to the seagate and the disk has not enough space, I reckon there is allready a lot of stuff on the seagate. Make sure there is enough room for it first by removing unwanted stuff, then select all the files and copy it into the seagate. It will take quite some space, check how much you will need by checking how much is on the Biab disk. I can't tell exactly, since I have the *.wma files only, but giving it the approx. 1:10 packed ratio, the audiofiles probably allready will take 350-400 Gb. So you really will need most of the Seagate's diskspace there.
I'll be back...

There shouldn't be as it's new right out of the box. But I'll check that. I was thinking that the folders first had to go to a temp file on the internal drive but don't know why. Anyway if it won't work on the XP machine I'll do it on the new Vista one. (I hope I won't have to copy it one file at a time) Maybe an image file.....?
Thanks

Maybe you need to format the new disk first.

Ahh I just gave up on the XP. Plugged 'em into the Vista box and turned on Acropolis and made an image file. 9 hours to go. Cheers WSS

Heh. No kidding. I got Acronis (I glitched on the name before) months ago to back all my recording stuff up. It makes an exact recoverable image file or at least it's supposed to. I also got a one T external for backing up the other two 500 gig internal drives. I think I'll start that one up before I go to bed.

Hi Steve,
Acronis is excellent and does the complete image as it says-
One tip - if you do a disc clean and defrag before you do the Acronis it will speed things up considerably - takes 30+ minutes on mine if I do the above jazzman

It's doing an image of the BIAB Audiophile as we speak and taking about ten hours for the nearly 500 g program and files. Next is C and D drives, both 500 g but not as filled up.
Question. When I open the BIAB disk with the image will it open and run the program as with the factory supplied one? Cheers WSS

Success!
The "backup" didn't work (actually it worked BUT I couldn't run the program from the backup files drive) so I used the Acronis Clone feature and cloned the whole thing to the Seagate drive. Took nearly 17 hours but I rebooted, unplugged the original BIAB disk and started BIAB right up off the Seagate copy.
Cheers WSS

Hi everyone,
Acronis is not required to copy or backup your audiophile hard drive. It is a normal Windows file copy procedure.
All I did was: 1) create a folder on my destination hard drive. 2) Used Windows Explorer to view the directory of the Audiophile USB drive. 3) Highlighted the Root directory ("AudiophileUltraPak," I think.) 4) From the Windows Menu Click: Edit ... Copy to Folder ... Navigated to the destination drive and highlighted the folder I wanted UltraPak in ... Clicked "copy."
Took 5 hours to transfer all 500 Gigs onto my DAW's E:/ drive.
Programs will run right off the internal drive same as they would off the USB drive. You follow the same installation instructions as though you were using the USB drive.
(You could copy the files to a folder on your C:/ drive if you wanted. I didn't have enough space.)
I put my USB drive away as a backup and I'm planning to get another drive shortly to make another safety backup. (You can never be too careful.)
Hope this helps anyone wanting to backup their Audiophile version.
Dean

There are programs like BURSTCOPY http://www.burstcopy.com/ that will significantly speed up your transfers. The trial copy should be good enough for a one time copy of HD edition. I copied everything (except the .WAV) files to my local HD for everyday use, and keep the Audiophile "archived" for special projects.
