Hi, Here is my first tune using BiaB and real tracks. I did the vocals and some of the background guitar work. I'm not sure if this is where I should post songs or not, so my apologies are extended if this is not the right place. The song is the first one in the list and should begin playing immediately. The song is entitled "Never Really Say Goodbye" and it is of the country/easy listening genre. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=879619thanks, Let me know what you think.

Very nice tune and the singing with the harmonies sounds really nice (I wish I could sing well). Good job on mixing the instruments and trading off the solos. You got a lot in there, but nothing seems to be stepping on each other. What made that "pedal steel" sound at 1:32? I haven't heard that segment before if it is a real track.
Probably going to need to even work harder to clean up a few of those "s" sounds here and there. You got a few of them right, so you can do it. Any "s" at the end of a word, I would just drop it off and not sing it -- like emptiness at 0:21 (well, at least test that theory).
I listened about 4 times, pretty dang good!

I liked it too. Ditto on the "s" thing. I listened to all three songs. I like to oboe or whatever it was at the beginning of number 2. Nice arrangement.

Good stuff.
As far as the sibilance, applying a De-esser plugin to the vocal track, along with careful adjustment of same, should prove to be the solve. Sibilance typically happens around 5.2K mark or so. Slight notching there could do the job, but a De-esser plugin can do it a bit better, employing compression and expansion along with the notching, automatically. PGDynamics plugin has a De-Ess setup in its default setups.
I'm listening on calibrated monitors here, the s's aren't all that bad, actually.

Kevin, Thanks for listening. I have adjusted the ess' on the two worst offenders, namely "emptiness" and "sadness" by just adjusting the clip. I'll do more with a dess-er when I have more time. The pedal steel thing (harmonics?) at 1:32 is one of the variations from "Pedal Steel, Background Ev 085. What I do is let the part play through several verses and if I don't get what I want I have it regenerate until I get something I like. Gene, Thanks for listening. The 2nd song intro is an oboe or actually an oboe voice on a synth. On the 2nd and 3rd songs I played or programmed all the parts physically playing all the guitars, bass and keyboard parts. It just takes too long to do it that way Mac, Thanks for listening. Wow, over 25,000 posts, that is incredible. As I mentioned above I addressed the two worst "ess" offenders and reposted the song. I will do a little more "surgery" when I get some time. thanks again, Tom

Good song. I liked the tune and the harmonies, nice arrangement, lyrics, and whatever plugins you used really compliment your voice nicely - essing notwithstanding - not sure which version I heard but the essing really didn’t bother me much. I thought you really captured the feeling of the song.

I haven't heard the original so I can't judge about the sibilances, since you corrected it. That is, I hardly hear the s's anymore, which might be a bit too drastic. They sound like lisping s's now. I don't know if you did those corrections over the whole song by now, but I think most the sibilances lost all "character", which is a pity.
The song on it's own is not bad, it is nice to listen to, although a bit more variation in the singing lines might make it a bit more exciting.
I'll be back...

Great job. I'd work on the lyrics a bit.
I'd think that a lyrical "even though" needs irony. The "hating to see her go" doesn't seem to relate to the "never saying goodbye."
I'd try something along the lines of this idea; not necessarily these words.
In your mind it isn't over until somebody actually says goodbye.
Excellend song.

Re: "emptiness at 0:21" I can hear how you shortened it by just cutting it out. If I can hear it, then maybe that wasn't the change you needed. I'd say go back and re-cut the vocals a few times to make it as good as you can -- and then call it done!

Good song, good mix, and as Noel said, a good sense of music. It's simple enough, for most people to like, Stevie mentioned some lyric work and I agree. I personally feel that most songs get to complicated in the process of trying to be creative. The classics over the years are really mostly pretty simple tunes, especially in country. To each their own, but I like it the way it is, although a nice bridge would hurt it any. Nice live playing on the other songs. Oh btw, I don't know if anyone mentioned it yet, but normally songs for critique are posted in the off topic section

Leaving the tail is likely better than the abrupt cutoff, which accentuates that area more.
Again, the sibilance was not all that bad to begin with.

Sundance, Noel, abaudio, WestsideSteve, Kevin, toucher and Mac, Excellent feedback on everything. I agree that my surgery on the sibilance made it worse. It does sound like a lisp I think I will at least try a de-ssor plug-in before I go back and re-record the vocals. Appreciate the comments on the lyrics as well. Toucher, thanks for the heads up on posting in the Off Topic forum for songs. Again, thanks all.

I like it as is.
This is really good country music!
OK, a random thought; Why does toilet paper need a commercial? Who's not buying it?
